This mini-assignment combines our writing and paragraph structure skills we have learned this year, and photo editing skills from grade 8. We all wrote paragraphs for and made an image about 5 of our role models here are mine

Chancelor (Chance the Rapper) Bennet

Chancellor Bennet was born on April 16, 1993 and at the age of 17 he released his first mixtape, 10 Day. It was his least popular mixtape to date, but that doesn’t rule it out of the discussion. The name 10 Day came from the 10 day suspension he received in high school, and during that time he made the mixtape. He has never sold a record or song though, he does not sell his music at all. All of his money comes from his multitude of tours and shows and also his ‘3’ merchandise. This is the main reason why he is my main role model, while almost all rappers nowadays are in it for the money, Chance is in it for the joy of making music for people and also trying to help them by telling his story. Coming up from a small corner in Chicago, he has shaken the world multiple times since his come up. Dropping 2 more mixtape’s: Acidrap in 2013, and his most successful, Coloring Book. Coloring Book was the first streaming exclusive album to break the Billboard Top 10. It did this with 57.3 million streams. All of these achievements though are all outweighed by his family. “Man, my daughter couldn’t have a better mother, man I swear my life is perfect.” A line from the first song on Coloring Book, All We Got, featuring his idol, Kanye West and the Chicago Children’s Choir, showing that even at the peak of stardom he still combines the life of fame with his roots. Something that I plan to do when I become famous.

Danny Ching

Danny Ching is a 33 year old professional stand up paddle boarder from Redondo Beach, California. Nicknamed ‘The Quiet Champion’ due to his quiet speech and humbleness, Danny has won multiple SUP world races, and outrigger events as well, touring on the pro circuit for both. What separates him from all the other racers is not his, technique or his mindset, which both stand in a class of their own, but it his take on sponsors. Instead of signing with a bunch of different companies like other racers do, Danny just made his own brands. He has 404, a SUP board brand an outrigger company. His second main company is Hippostick, a paddle company that makes paddles for SUPs and outriggers. Both companies in all departments are popular worldwide. This is what I idolize about him, at 33, he is taking the kids of the new age to school still, and at the same time balancing his family, a multi sport, multi brand business platform, yet, he manages to stay humble and understated. Just because he is humble does not mean he is influential, I personally try and model my paddling style, stroke and attitude off him. Meeting him in person confirmed all of these things, he was happy to meet some kids from some corner of Canada, who were just starting this sport. He is one of the best ever in both sports, but at the same time one of the most humble people I’ve ever met.

Evan Gerbrecht (My Brother)

While my brother Evan may not be a internationally recognized hero to all, he for sure is one of mine. When I was a kid all I wanted to be when I was older was, bigger, taller, stronger, faster than Evan. Those goals were reinforced once I started stand up paddle boarding, he in the SUP community on the west coast and starting to spread across the world of SUP, he is one of the most promising racers, and right now I’m living in his shadow. I’m just ‘Evan’s brother,’ but that has worked wonders for me. It has provided me with constant motivation and competition. I will never be quite as fast as him though, which is a huge reason why he is a role model of mine. He is so humble. He never brings up that he is the #1 ranked junior in Canada and the #3 ranked man. (I’m the #3 ranked junior and the #6 or #7 ranked man). And the fact that he is planning to go to Denmark for the ISA SUP World Championships this November makes me idolize him even more. And this whole time he remains unsponsored but is completely ok, because he would rather paddle with his team, as oppose to a brands team. He is my oldest role model, I’ve wanted to be like him as long as I can remember, and now that feeling is stronger than ever, the feeling and need to want to be as good as him, or possibly even better.

Marchawn and (Beast Mode/Skittles) Lynch

When I first started getting into football the first player that really caught my attention was Marchawn Lynch. Not just because of his explosive speed, and surprising power, but also him as a person. He co-founded Family 1st, a charity dedicated to helping underprivileged youth get the help and supplies that they need to grow as people in society. What’s even cooler is that he doesn’t just give money but he will go up to the kids in the camps that he runs and give them shoes, he asks their size, they tell him and he hands them a box of brand new Jordan’s. Aside from the charitable side of him, I relate and aspire to have a personality like him too, at the peak of his career he still managed to have so much fun, still boasting the fact of eating skittles before a big game, and many more hilarious character habits and antics. My personal favorite was in college when he drove a golf cart around the field. He isn’t just fun though, he has a Super Bowl win under his belt and a 5x Pro Bowl player, and he’s an extremely scary intimidating person as well. Other than ‘Skittles’ his next nickname is almost the complete opposite, ‘Beast Mode’ He is called this due to his amazing ability to bowl over giant lineman like they are little boys. And also while doing this he might throw in his infamous stiff arm just to embarrass you a little more. I want to be like him because even at the peak of professional sports he still manages to save time for families, whether that’s his or a strangers, he gives all people respect and help. He also is a sports influence, called a failure in his young years, he made the big leauges in a big way.

Donald (Childish Gambino)Glover

My final role model is Donald Glover, the writer, actor, director, producer, singer, rapper and songwriter has had an illustrious career for someone who is only 33. He was born in California, but raised most of his life in Atlanta, Georgia. He got his first start when he was hired at the age of 23 to be a writer for the show 30 Rock, but he left 3 years later to pursue his career in the music industry. Interestingly enough he mentioned leaving the show in his song We Ain’t Them. Leaving the show was not the end of his television career though, because in September of 2016 Glover released his own show that he stars in and created. Those few sentences are a short reason why I idolize Donald, he has used his broad spectrum of talents throughout his whole life, even if that means leaving a good job. But when he returned to TV he won a Golden Globe for Best Music or Comedy TV series. Around this time he released his 3rd album, Awaken, My Love! And also recently he has started venturing into the land of movies as well, playing Rich Purnell in 2015s The Martian, and more recently being cast as a young Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Star Wars. He is so serious about the role he delayed recording the album just to prepare. That’s another thing I like about him, he is so driven to complete a task and to do an amazing job doing it.

The final part was making a total visual.

This was a difficult process as I had to cut out each persons head, perfectly space it with the podiums, and add all the little text. The har
