I’m Going To Be Famous!

Ok, so maybe I won’t be famous but I had a chance in a new project in Maker that corresponds with the Power of Imagination field study. The project I completed was called “Making Effective Personal Design Choices”. The driving question is straight forward: “How do I make effective personal design choices?”. To answer this driving question I worked on this project I worked through 3 investigations. In these investigations I improved and understood different skills, such as Questioning, Analyzing and Processing. One of the final products for this project was the creation of 5 trend videos that connect with Disney World, in addition to creating a Personal Productivity System.

To start of this project I wasn’t really aware of the final goal because we were focused on the first section, our “Personal Productivity System”. This system is meant to help you finish the things you need to get done more efficiently so you have more time for the things that are truly important. The system is broken down into specific steps: Capture, Clarify, Organize, Reflect and Engage.

When using my system I was able to clear my digital and physical backlog. I kept track of progress throughout the week by creating doing a weekly review and plan. I stated, in my weekly review, my opinions on the effectiveness of this system:

Portion of Reflection

I think this Personal Productivity System aloud myself to use Things effectively and understand what things are more important. This investigation connects to the main point of the project because it’s an effective design choice in itself, which connects to the literal project title. I think I was also able to improve my processing skills by using decision-making to evaluate what piece of backlog are unnecessary. I was even able to use my organization in other projects outside of this subject, and school in itself.

Things Reading Schedule

After the first investigation I moved onto the next, “Creating Trend Videos”. This was the first investigation that contributed to the process of creating the Trend Videos. The main point of this specific investigation was to create a planning document for each trend video. This was super important to the creation of the videos because it was the actual concept that the video would be. I found this process interesting a fun because I had many ideas about what I want to do. I think this was a great way to work on my Questioning skills because I was able to question, research and share my ideas.

After the idea for each Trend Video was created the next investigation was needed, the execution. This investigation was called “Effective PBL Pathway for Personal Design”. There were four main important steps; Plan, Storyboard, Draft, and Reflect, in which mimic the PBL pathway. In the Plan section I used my understanding with organization in Things and I used decision-making skills to create a project with deadlines. I then moved onto the creation of a storyboard, where I thought of critical ways to display my creative ideas. I then drafted by creating prototypes for each video. I then edited my plan by receiving feedback from peers, determining the audience, message and purpose.

I later thought of using video techniques from past projects, such as green screen to create a teleportation effect, but I didn’t think of this idea early enough so the part weren’t filmed and this idea wasn’t able to be executed. In addition to this I feel like there were some days where I didn’t prioritize what needed to be filmed and some portions of the video were rushed. But, overall, I think I had very entertaining ideas that showed my ability to explore with my skills in media.

Overall I think that I was able to implement my design choices into a different variety of concepts a with an open mindset. I was able to think creatively, make complex judgments, and share ideas to an audience. With the project complete I feel I was able to answer the question “How do I make effective personal design choices?” throughout my Trend Videos and Productivity System. This is because I was able to understand my ideas, but implement them into a representation using design principles, while balancing my creativity and practicality through organization software.

What would you film in Disney World? Thanks for reading!
