Stars wars has become one of the most popular movie franchises in history. It began in 1979 and it has endured over the decades by recreating itself for new generations. “A New Hope”, the first movie produced (IV Episode) created the winning formula for the franchise to follow. The series is about following the hero’s journey to overcome mental obstacles, physical challenges and in the end a overwhelming enemy.

Simply put the film is a great movie that everyone should take time to watch and was the start of something bigger than a just a movie. George Lucas intended the movies for kids but it was something new and unique that became part of the people who watched it. As time passed those kids became adults and it remained in their memory and the later films reminded them of their childhood memories. A New Hope has become a commodity in our culture and people still have a deep and meaningful nostalgic connection to the movie over time.

The blue screen technology used in the original movie is fairly primitive by todays standards, however it was done at a new level and the effects they created had not been seen before. The characters and space craft were convincing enough to allow the audience to believe. With a very small budget they were able to make an impressive movie using many tools like animating the laser blasts/light sabers.

An equally important part of the movie was the iconic music. Composer John Williams was only given a few months to produce music that would be eventually become the most well known movie music in history. However, the music isn’t the only thing that added to the film and the sound effects were great, making you feel like you are really there (even though you wouldn’t here the Death Star explode in real space).

The story of A New Hope is very complex but yet not complicated at the same time. The movie was able to create and develop characters that the watcher could connect to. The movie is about the struggle between good and evil that everyone experiences. The creation of the force was a tangible yet invisible way of representing everyones battle between good and evil. The movie also was able to show how neutral characters can be caught between these opposing forces. The movie successfully approached these issues while still being entertaining was impressive. The most important theme in A New Hope is that “ while hardships come your way one should always think of the right action and helping people for a bigger cause, you believe in, will result in rewards and honour.”
