Do You Know Who You Are?

Do you know who you are?

Hi blog Iโ€™m back. Iโ€™ve just started a project about identity. Iโ€™m sure there will be more posts about it including ones about podcasts, but here is my first post where I talk about what is identity?

Have you ever sat down to think about everything that makes you, you? Identity, in a simple explanation is who you are, and what makes you different to everyone else.

Definitions from me (above) and google (below).

To go in more depth about identity Iโ€™ll use who I am as an example. Starting with certain aspects of identity (above) that stand out to me.

First hereโ€™s a poem written from when I started thinking about identity. The poem is simple but accurately represents what first comes to mind when thinking about who I am :

Asha

Creative, Smart, Responsibleย

A friend to her friends

Who loves to make art and spend time with othersย

Who feels excited, worried, and happy

Who is a hard working student

Who hopes everyone is happy

Environment

Imagine how different your life would be if you lived somewhere else. What would change? Iโ€™ve always lived around the ocean and mountains, itโ€™s something that is important to me. This is part of my identity but wait, it goes deeper than that. Your environment also determines who the people in your life are. I believe people have a huge impact on my identity. Friends and family have influenced my perspectives, interests, and emotions. My friends introduced me to new interests like fashion and music. My family encourages me to make certain decisions and choices. Itโ€™s important to mention the opportunities that different environments have. If I went to a different school I wouldnโ€™t have even been in this class Iโ€™m writing this post for. Itโ€™s a small detail but every part of my life is reflected in my identity.

Worldview

The way you see the world is a huge part of identity. Your worldview will play a part in how you make descisions and react to different experiences. For example I was given this assignment. Iโ€™m writing with my perspectives/thinking which will determine how well I do with this assignment, and that will effect other things in the future. Worldview will lead me to the decisions I make, and the experiences that come from that will shape my identity. That brings me to my next topic…

Experiences

A small experience could become a part of who you are without even realizing it. If I had never taken art classes it might not be an interst of mine. If I had never gone to Alberta I might not have the same knowledge about mountains and nature. If I was placed in a different class in elementary school I might not have had the same friends. My point is all these experiences have led me to become who I am now. Itโ€™s the little things that make up who everyone is, and all the aspects of identity connect to that.

I think that overall itโ€™s my life up until now that creates my identity. Itโ€™s important because itโ€™s why no one is the same, were all a little bit different from each other. Can you imagine a world where weโ€™re all the same?

Iโ€™ve made this animation to represent my identity through symbols and pictures. How would you express who you are?

Thanks 4 reading my first blog post of the year,
