Down Town East Side

The down town east side has some of the. Worst homelessness rates in the world. If you ever drive though the DTES will see people at there worst laying on ragged steps. With there faces getting sucked in by there cheeks.
In this project we took a look at how a place so close to a bustling city can get so bad. Also taking a look at the people who are working to help people in small ways, but are creating a ripple effect that is changing the way people look a the issues of the Downtown Eastside and the live of the people how are living it the DTES.

This project started of as simple idea to try to get a few interviews because it was a problem that was close by. We where planning on reaching out to some of my fathers contacts at bc housing to look at some of the people who where helping with the DTES, but our teacher informed us that they had some contacts that would be able to assist with this project. Before we when to go interview them we had to research the topic.
This project was a part of the unit “We Shall Over Come” where we looked at the civil rights movement taking a look at the people and the events of that time trying to answer the question “How can the actions of a individual change a system?”. This are the events that we looked at:
