Destination Imagination Summative Blog Post

Heres a tip, If you ever do see me in real life and decide to talk to me, don’t bring up destination imagination.

Over the span of 2 and a half months we had a burden of a project called Destination Imagination. It’s a global competition that is usually hosted in real life at some super exiting location, but this year, like everything nowadays is online. We would create a video to submit to the Destination Imagination High Council to decide who would win. There were 5 competition solutions that you could choose to create. There was science, technical, fine arts, and engineering. The science solution was to create a video that showed people breaking a law of science. The technical aspect was to create  a video of someone in a video game trying to get the ultimate prize. The engineering aspect was to create a video of  group of people designing a community centre catered for all ages. And the aspect that I was in was the fine arts. The rules of the fine arts challenge was to create a Music video about fine literature, meaning that it had to be old. Our group would eventually decide to choose the firs book of Ann of green gables, which I hadn’t read up until that point so I had a bit of catching up to do. Our group first and to sign a contract stating that we were not to be interfered with by parents or teachers. Because of this rule, all of our project was to be done by ourselves. This was a pretty big deal, because everything we’ve ever done in school was organized by the teachers. After a long handful of weeks of shooting, writing, and singing, we were done. Now, because Anne of green gables is shot in Eastern Canada, being on the other side of the country is pretty hard to replicate all of Newfoundland’s landscape so we had to make do with the beautiful forrests in our reach. Another part of the book is the old school house. In fact two thirds of our challenge video was filmed in a old school house and we had a budget of only $100 dollars so green screen and editing would really save our butt.

A couple of weeks later, much after I totally forgot about DI, the national results came out. I really wasn’t expecting much but it turns out, we won in our fine arts category for all around Canada. I was pretty proud of me and my team, because we really put our all into this project and It turned out great. Although I wont be safe from DI for very long, because its coming back next year, harder than ever.
