Hello all and welcome back to another reflection post. In this post I will be recounting everything I’ve done since my last reflection post, which I will leave a link to here. To start I will tell you about… one second, let me check…

The World Needs Your Voice

This project was a small side project that was really fun. We looked at what our message would be if we chose to get one out in the world, and then we looked at what medium we would use. Then we were tasked to create an ad for the medium. My ad looked like this.

Team Advertisement Drafts

In this project, which was more along the main project side and less of the side project side, we were tasked with creating three team drafts and sending them to our businesses. My groups looked like

  • Draft Number One

our business said that they like number two so we started leaning more on that side.

Final Team Draft

In this one, we took the feedback from our business and submitted our final draft, which looked like this.

Advertisement Professional Feedback

For this, a professional advertisement personcame in to give us feedback on our ads. He told us to remove the coffee cup, specify where the best cinnamon buns are, and more. After hearing that feedback we finished creating our actual final draft which looked like this.

            Milestone Five

Now you might be thinking, ‘where is Milestone Four?’ And I don’t blame you. But don’t worry, its coming. To prepare for milestone five, we looked at McLuhan For Beginners, which is a book covering Marshall McLuhan’s thought and media and message. Then we were tasked to write an essagraph(an essay using paragraphs) about why Larry, from the Gospel According To Larry, which I will leave a link to my review here, chose a blog to be his medium, and how he hoped his medium could be his message. Here is a quick look at that.

I think that Larry hoped that by writing a blog he would seem like a more real person, even if he was anonymous. I think that, based on what Marshall McLuhan said in McLuhan for beginners, that Larry’s blog made him seem like just another guy whereas most other mediums would have made him seem like someone who is better then them. And look at how much people worshiped him once they knew who he was. And once he died people who he barely knew were crying over his grave. The toothbrush that he gave betagold at the Larryfest went into a museum. A museum. I think that if he just started a blog and but on one sermon, it would, over time, have the same impact as what it actually did. Therefore, his medium, a blog, embodied his message in more than one way.

Milestone Six

I know, I know, Milestone Four is coming. This is where we submitted our final draft, along with what we personally contributed. That looks like this.

Milestone Four

We are finally here. In this milestone, we created a launch journal, which had all our notes and all our drafts and everything. I can’t really show you it, because if I did it would be like six times as long as this entire blog post so far so yeah.

Advertising Photo Journal

In this, we looked at five ads for five weeks. Then we analyzed the meanings behind them. Like milestone four, I can’t really show you this so you’ll just have to imagine it.

Reflection Time

So now I am going to reflect on this project and what I though of it. I really liked this project, and I had tons of fun creating an ad for a local business. I think that I can answer the driving question, ‘how does what we hear, read, and see influence us’. Ok think that it influences us consciously and un-consciously, in making us want something by seeing an ad for, making us believe in something by giving us proof or telling it to us over and over again. This project showed me a lot about how advertising, and how the world works after we exit our little bubbles. These are the links to my group members blogs, Fraser, Claire, Kwosen, Jocelyn.

See you all in the next one.
