Screen Time Tracker Project Post

Welcome back!! We switched quarters about a week ago, and in Scimatics we have been working on a screen time tracker that we kept for a week. Below are are my thoughts on this project…I hope you enjoy!

What this project was:

This project was a real eye opener into how much time I spend on average a week on my screens. It was really interesting to see what days I spent the most time on screens, and what days I didn’t. I also think that this chart is really important for people my age to see and understand that we spend a lot of times on screens (this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I think that teens should be more aware of how much time we actually use technology like phones and iPads).

My screen time tracker:

As you can see from the chart, I spend about a third of my week on screens. I also only spend a little bit more time on productivity on my iPad then games, which I should probably fix. Now that I am aware of this, I am definitely going to try and limit my screen time everyday.

Competencies:

For this project, I feel like I did a pretty good job of staying on task and making sure that I used the class time to the best of my abilities. I think that during class, I worked as hard as I could to make the best product that I could have in the amount of time that we had to complete this project. I’m really proud of the way that I did the chart and I think that it has helped me visualize math in a better way. This project has also helped me explore math concepts (mainly in decimals because thats what we used in the spreadsheet). It was also fun to get to see the inner workings of a spreadsheet.

Summary of the project:

Overall, I think this project has been super fun and educational. It has taught me how to use my time wisely, how to visualize math better, and how to make spreadsheets which I am sure I will need sometime in the future. It’s important that we become more aware of things like how much time we spend on screens, and this was the perfect project to look closer at that.

Thank you so much for reading…as always, there will be more coming soon!

Best wishes,

-Dana
