Financing? How Boring…

Hello everyone!

Welcome back to my blog, I’m sure y’all have missed me a great deal. Anyhow, this is not going to be a regular update about what I have been doing in my school projects. This is a short post about what I did for Take Your Kid To Work Day. Below is everything that I did and an added bonus of a short YouTube video going a little bit more in depth about what I did!

First off, both of my parents work from home and they are both accountants. I was going to go with one of our family friends to Seaspan, but that didn’t end up working out. So in the end, I watched them fill our spread sheets and have budget meetings with clients. It wasn’t super exited, but I learned a whole lot more about what they do in a day which was the whole point. Since I couldn’t watch them work all day (i.e. confidential meetings), I watched some of the videos that were provided about different work opportunities in our work place. I think this was a good way to see a different side of the work force because as I said above, both of the parent are accountants.

What my mom does:

My mom provides accounting and final support in areas such as insurance, IT, Human Resources, and admin. Accounting and finance covers day to day accounting transactions, as well as finance functions such as cash flow projections, forecasts, budgeting, strategy planning, and financial reporting/statements. My mom does financing for my old school so it was nice to get to see my old teachers and talk to them.

Here are some of the notes when I sat in on her 1hr long meeting:

My dad is the CFO of Subnation which is a company that produces high end graphics for things like MLB, produces high end commercials and owns and E-Sports team. also got to sit in on my dads 15 min conference call. This is where the whole company came together and talked about what they needed help with, or what they had been working on. It was cool to see how the finance side of a company actually works and how hard it is and complicated.

Oh! I almost forgot! Here’s the YouTube video that goes a little bit more in depth about what I did for Take Your Kid To Work Day. There’s even an exclusive interview with my mom!

Thanks so much for reading this very short blog post about what I did and I hoped you enjoyed hearing a little bit more about my day!

Best wishes,

-Dana
