Student Blogging Challenge 9: Coding

This week, for the first time in a while, I spent some time coding! The last time I coded was in grade 8 using Swift Playgrounds, and I haven’t gone back to it since. This time however, I went to the Hour Of Code website and tried out one of their mini coding games. I chose to do the Minecraft one as it was recommended by a friend, and it definitely did not disappoint. It was super cool and not as confusing as I was expecting. The user interface made understanding the different functions and tasks very simple and ultimately was what led me to having a good time while also learning some basic code.

Because I chose to do a Minecraft-themed coding course it felt more like a game than anything else. Watching Steve move around the map like I programmed him to was really cool, the challenge of visualizing the movements beforehand and watching them play out is what makes this type of code so fun. Overall this week was a success and I’m glad I got to try out coding again.
