First Impressions

Today was a day of first impressions; students meeting the new Principal, the new Principal meeting 500 students, staff members in new roles or new schools, new students meeting in the gym, …

Based on my first impression of the student body at Cleveland Elementary, I believe that I am lucky to be the Principal of a school filled with wonderful and positive students. Thanks.

My head was rather full by the end of the day, but there were some key words from my day:

  • Welcoming – the school felt very welcoming to both new and returning students. A testament to the staff and the school community – Keep it up.
  • Excitement – there were many happy, smiling faces of students in all grades who were so excited to see friends and share summer stories. It was great to see such positive energy.
  • Curiosity – students and parents were curious to meet the new Principal (and new Vice-Principal) and put a face to the name(s). I was curious too. It is not every day that you meet 500 new people in 30 minutes.
  • Patience – sorry about the school supplies… We were surprised too.
  • Breathe – with all that goes on in a school, sometimes I need reminders to stop and breathe. Not all answers can be answered today.

We got off to a great start today, and tomorrow promises to be one of the many positive school days that will fill our year.

Take care and see you in school.

Getting Ready for the New Year

The 2011/2012 school year is about to begin. I am looking forward to being a part of a new community in North Vancouver and to being the Principal of Cleveland Elementary School.

Over the summer, the teachers and support staff have been working hard to get the school ready for students, and on Tuesday, September 6th, the halls of the school will be once again filled with the joyful noise of 500 children as they come back from their summer break.

Thank you to all the staff who have helped us get ready for the new school year. The school looks great.

Thank you in advance to all the students, parents and community members for their positive support for the upcoming school year. Together, we shall continue to make Cleveland Elementary a great school for everyone.

Take care and see you next week.
