Summer Time Thoughts

Over the summer, I must admit to not doing a lot of thinking about the school year. When school thoughts would visit my brain, I tried to gently steer them aside and ask them to wait until the end of August. Now that the end of August has arrived, I am accepting those school thoughts once again, and taking the time to plan for this upcoming year.

Last year was an interesting year. I enjoyed it, but I would like in some ways for this year to be less interesting. I hope that we have less provincial “noise” in education, and I hope we can focus on working collaboratively in making public education in British Columbia something we all celebrate. Last year the staff here did work collaboratively on many projects, and I look forward to moving forward with those initiatives. Our Giving Tree in the front lobby grew over the course of the year, and I hope all staff find ways of catching children being kind and making a positive difference in our school.

I am still working on my goals for this year. Every year I will include getting to know every child in the school by the end of September, but maybe this year it should be by September 21st. My ability to speak French may take longer.

Some possible areas that I may focus on include: visibility, communication, classroom visits, personalized learning, assessment, technology in schools, social/emotional learning, supporting children with anxiety, parent education, pros and cons of homework, etc. The list could go on. I will have to select a focus.

For now, I am going to focus on leaving school and taking no homework home. I’m not ready for homework yet.

Take care.

Almost Ready to Come Back

The start of the school year is fast approaching. The summer went by fairly quickly for me, and it was very relaxing. I hope everyone had a good summer.

Next week (August 27 – 31) the Cleveland Elementary School office is open from 9:00 – 3:00 each day. We will be working on getting ready for students to return on September 5th. There are many things we have to do to get ready for a new year. While we will be busy, please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or want to to discuss something.

I am looking forward to another wonderful year at Cleveland. See you in September.

Take care.
