Starting to Enjoy Summer

Summer’s Here

With a few seconds left in the day, many children were standing at the exit doors, counting down to summer.

“10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Yeah!!!” and then they started to run down the front steps.

Only one problem. The bell did not ring. They counted too early.

I yelled up, “You’re too early!” 🙂 

They stopped. Looked up and me with surprised looks on their faces. Then the bell rang.

“Yeah!!! Summer’s Here!!!” and they started running down the stairs again.

Have a great summer everyone. Find time to relax, have fun, and connect with yourselves and family. Get outside and enjoy the natural world. Find time to read a book or two. Watch team Canada play in the Women’s World Cup.

This is my last post as Principal of Cleveland Elementary School. Soon I will posting as Principal of Capilano Elementary.

To the Cleveland families, thanks. I really enjoyed my four years here.

Farewell Grade 7’s

Today we held our annual Grade 7 Farewell ceremony. It was a wonderful afternoon celebration of our class of 2015.

Congratulations to our grade 7 students. Thank you to all the students who received service awards. Congratulations to Krista, Megan, Tiana, Cole and Lucas who all shared the 2015 Cleveland ELementary Citizenship Award.

Thank you to all the staff and parents who helped make the grade 7 experience at Cleveland so successful.

Tonight is the dance and they all seem to be having fun.  There are a lot of screams coming from the gym (although that could be the music) and happy children in the hallway.

To the class of 2015, good luck in high school.

The grade 7 Farewell ceremony is tomorrow at 1:00 pm, and tonight I have been working on my part of the celebration. I think I am ready, but the following poem jumped in my head, so I thought I would share:

 

I am happy right now, as writer’s block went away.

I have written a lot, and will now call it a day.

The words started flowing, the thoughts they all came.

Then I looked at an old speech and noticed the same

Words that I wrote, some years before.

I had to start over, and write out some more.

It is now eight o’clock, my new speech is done.

Time to go home. See you tomorrow at one.
