I shared with the students a Coast Salish story of the hummingbird (Sah Sen) and a message of kindness and giving. June 21st is National Aboriginal Day. Please take the time to stop and honour our First Nation people’s, the Metis and the Inuit people, who add so much to our cultural heritage.

We also had a chance to say farewell to Mme Gagné, who is retiring after 30 years of teaching, with most of those years being here at Cleveland. You will be missed Mme Gagné.

This assembly was especially touching to me as I saw approximately 500 people come into the gym wearing ties. I am somewhat known for having a variety of ties to wear, and it was wonderful to see all the students and staff wearing ties. I was treated at the end to a surprise presentation called “The Important Things About Me. Beveridge” and a flash mob dance. I will admit to having some tears.

Thank you to all the students and adults who helped make this assembly so great. I will miss you all, however, I’m not gone yet. I will be here next week as well. We still have the grade 7 farewell and 4 days of school to go.

Take care.
