mPOLs 2022

Welcome to my first ever mPOL!

This is going to be a bit different from my usual Humanities or Scimatics blog post as this is an mPOL post. mPOL stands for “Midyear Presentation Of Learning”

Normally this would be the second mPOL that a PLP student would do, but due to Covid we did not do this last year. In this blog post I will be answering 2 questions. How have I demonstrated growth as a learner so far this year? and how can I sharpen my learning plan to ensure I will reach my learning targets by the end of this school year?

How have I demonstrated growth as a learner so far this year?

Humanities

The project that most showed my learning “Revolutions on Trial”.

I like to use this project to demonstrate my learning because:

  1. I enjoyed it a lot (which is bonus points)
  2. The learning was presented and developed in a really cool way
  3. The topic was all around interesting, which helps me learn
  4. I am proud of the work I did

This project was all about some of the nastiest, most impactful revolutions in history, which like I said, was really interesting. I learned a lot about legal prossess and big historic revolutions. This project taught me a lot about the importance of a functioning legal system, why revolutions can occur, different phases of a revolution as well as “real world things” like team working and presenting skills. Spreading across a long time also got extra points for this project. We had more time to take in and understand information, and it was not rushed.

We’ve also done 2 other projects that I’ve learned a lot from. People vs The Environment and

Working With Words

Maker

We haven’t done much for maker as it wasn’t in the first term. We started our Destination Imagination project briefly, but nothing substantial yet.

Scimatics

The project that most showed my learning “Correlation vs Causation”.

I like to use this project to demonstrate my leaning because:

  1. It was easy for me to stay organized (something I struggle with)
  2. Surveys are a really interesting topic to me
  3. It was very flexible in the final product

This project was about differentiating causation from correlation. We looked to surveys as an simple way to look at data with correlation and causation. I learned a lot about making surveys and organizing data. This project taught me a lot about different types of surveys, organize data from surveys and using/any analyzing the data from surveys.

How can I sharpen my learning plan to ensure I will reach my learning targets by the end of this school year?

So far, I’m sticking to my learning plan and I’m pretty on track.

3 things I have completed from my learning plan:

1. I have improved my collaboration skills

I’m always working on trying to get better at working in a team. This is something I’ve never really struggled with, but can always get better at.

2. I have had more communication with the teachers

I want to communicate more with the teachers to make sure that I’m on track.

3. I have learned to use many different tools to

I’m learning to implicate a variety of tools to help accomplish tasks

Something I haven’t done on my learning plan:

I have not worked to improved my spelling and grammar

I will work harder to complete my learning plan. I think that my learning plan still has good goals for me to work towards in the rest of the year.

Thanks for tuning in!
