The Medium is The Message: final reflection

Another project finished! Just a week ago we were only half done. You can go check out my mid-project refection to see a full view of this project. 

How does what we hear read and see influence us? 

Through this project I discovered that ads not only influence what we buy but they influence ourselves. Everything that we experience influences us. For example; when I see an ad for candle that I like I will look into the product deeper. That ad will influence my purchase of a candle because now I know that I could buy the indigo candles that I always buy, or I could buy these new, maybe cheaper candles from Urban Outfitters. That is how ads influence our purchase of things. 

In this project we were creating ads for a local business and I am pretty proud of my final ad. Learning about advertisement and marketing was really interesting. In this project we got to view ads from a historical perspective, Analyze ads into text, learn about what makes a good ad, learn and use the techniques and appeals of advertising, and so much more. You never realize how many ads we see a day until you actually take a look at it. My classmate Julia saw 70 ads when just bussing to school. Ads affect our everyday life and we barely realize it. 

Milestone 4:

Launch Cycle: Milestone 4

Milestone 4 was a LAUNCH journal. We had been working on the launch journal since the start of this project. The reason why its called the launch journal is because it is a journal of the launch cycle. We recorded all our progress and work so far in the launch journal; a shared numbers doc. The launch journal was a great way to look back and see what we had done so far. 

Milestone 5:

Milestone 5

Milestone 5 was my best milestone in this whole project. For this milestone we used our knowledge from reading the gospel according to larry and then we read about McLuhan’s discovery: the medium is the message. We used examples from both and created a thesis on how the medium is message and the gospel according to larry are similar. In the sense of ‘how larry hoped that his medium could be his message. I struggled with it at the beginning but started to get ahold of it and it turned out to be my best milestone. 

Milestone 6: 

Milestone 6

Milestone 6 was our final advertisement draft. It was our final product of this project. I think that our ad turned out pretty good, if I do say so myself. We took our own pictures, only used very few parts of the Canva template and made sure everything matched. It was very interesting to create an ad. We struggled at some points and maybe if we did it again there would be a few things that we could change. Though overall as a first time making an ad I think we did a great job!

Overall I had lots of fun with this project. It was very interesting to see how much time goes into making advertisements. There is so much thought and revision, its crazy. We must’ve done at least 10 drafts. The reason why we buy certain things is because of ads. Advertisement was such a cool topic to learn about.
