Hi, for this blog post we will be talking about mPOLs (mid-year presentation of learning). mPOLs are something you do in PLP to show how you are learning. It it kind of like a student led conference where you reflect on your work and how you could do better. I am going to talk about each of my PLP subjects and different projects in them.

Humanities

First, I am going to talk about the advertising project. We started off by learning a lot about different advertising techniques and how they are used. Later we chose a  Deep Cove company to interview and we created an ad. Went we went on our field school to Oregon we got assigned another company to interview and create an ad about their company. The next thing I am going to talk about is the religious worldview project. There were many different parts of this project like the group poster but I am going to focus on the worldview explain everything. For this assignment everyone had trouble with the app which made it hard to use. Also I pressed the wrong button and deleted my whole project before I learned how to use it properly.

Scimatics

For science we were learning all about plate tectonics. Our task was to make a children’s book about plate tectonics and what they do. I think that I did not show my best work through this project because I left it to the last minute while I focused on work from other subjects. In math we have recently done a unit on fractions and we just started a unit on geometry.

Maker

In Maker we have done a few projects but my favourite project was definitely awesome images. We did a few different activities including every day objects and portrait photos. After these activities we made a photo documentary about religious worldview. Another thing we did in Maker was the Student Blogging Challenge. I definitely learned a lot about blogging from the SBC and I really enjoyed participating in each challenge.

PGP

Now finally PGP. In this class we have recently been working on goal setting and time management. We got assigned a book about goal setting to read and we had to complete forms related to the book. We also had to complete some tasks called think it and ink it. Another thing we had to do was time block. We were supposed to time block to help us manage our time. I tried time blocking in the calendar app on my iPad but it did not seem to work for me. Instead I use a paper calendar to time block. The last thing we had to do was the weekly review. I found it difficult to remember to actually do it. I would use things to remind me but I would still have trouble remembering to do it.

  • Goal setting/ time blocking

I find that I often leave assignments to the last minute and I need to time block my assignments more so I can get them done early. When I work on projects I often find it hard to stay focused because I get distracted easily by things like my cats. I think I need to find a way to stay focused so I can get my work done.
