It’s time for DI!

It’s time for another awesome reflection post! This post is a reflection on a PLP DI online tournament that we just did. In the post I will discuss what my team and I have changed since the last tournament and how it went. Destination Imagination or DI is so amazing and everyone was so sad when they had to cancel due to Covid-19. PLP is an extremely fun program I’m in at school and everything is project based. When everyone heard that DI was cancelled our teachers decided that we would do our own mini tournament online. My last tournament

It’ll Be Over In A Flash!

It’ll Be Over In A Flash is the team that I’m on and our challenge was fine arts Picture This. After our last tournament we had many things that we wanted to work on. As a group we decided we wanted to improve our costumes, our script, our props and change our unseen character. We discussed a lot and decided to change our unseen character from the alien into a Russian Astronaut, this fit with our script way better and made way more sense. The Russian Astronaut fit better because our script is about a couple astronauts going to the moon and something happening up there, our astronauts were going to be the first astronauts to go to the moon and so our script started to be like the Space Race. The Space Race was a race between Russia and America in the 20th century to get to the moon first. America did end up getting to the moon first. When we changed the unseen character we created a new script which we kept improving as we went. Unfortunately we were not able to improve our props and costumes as we left them at the school before spring break and we haven’t been back since because of the virus.

Virtual advantages!

For the online tournament we used Zoom. Zoom has so many advantages that we got to use and one being the virtual backgrounds. This was so helpful as whenever we changed the scene we just changed the image on our background. Our teachers muted themselves during our presentation so that we could use active speaker. Active speaker aloud it so that you would only see the person who is speaking on the screen. When we weren’t speaking we would mute ourselves so there would be no extra background noise as we were all still in our homes. After we presented we were given the compliment that we used foreshadowing really well. Foreshadowing means a warning or indication of a future event.

Instant Challenge!

Just like all DI tournaments we had an instant challenge. This instant challenge was definitely way more challenging than normal as it was virtual. I’m not allowed to talk about an instant challenge outside of the instant challenge room but I feel that my group did really well with what we were given and there was definitely room to improve.

Competency!

Research and Understand!

How might I research and understand a problem, process, or challenge using different perspectives? For this competency I feel our group did very well with it because of the huge change we made with our unseen character. I had never really heard about the Space Race so when we planned to put it in our script I went home and did quite a bit of research on it.

Conclusion!

Overall I am so happy that we still got to do some kind of DI tournament even if it was really different. Is was a new experience that I enjoyed a lot!
