DI Provincials, Eh

As you know we started a project called  Destination Imagination. It is one big tournemant that we started a while back, in class. If you want more of a background on it go to my regionals post.

Regionals, Eh

Provincials had a lot more people then regionals of course, and everybody was much more competitive, after being able to fix everything that could have been better when they did it in regionals.

We first had to do a opening ceremony which is shown above. My group wasn’t in it because we were getting ready to present because our presentation was 20mins after so we were double checking everything and making sure everything was working. Before we knew it we were being asked questions about what we were doing and how we were going to do it. Before we even got there we changed decent amount of things such as adding dry ice. It didn’t really work, but after everything was over it was fun to play with. I was not at regionals, and one of our group members wasn’t at provincials so I took his role. I did alright even though I accidentally unplugged the speakers at one point.  The actuall mechanism that moved our stage(the main task) was broken so we just made it so it used the mechanism partially but I had to pull the thing instead of weights dropping. Other then that everything went pretty well.

Our Presentation We didn’t really speak loud enough either.

We then had to deal with an Instant Challenge. We didn’t really do that well but we did enough so that we weren’t embarrassed. At the end of the day we had a closing ceremony. We won in regionals, and we also won in provincials. My friend and I were the only people in our group there so we had to wear like 2 or 3 medals each, and each carry a trophy. My school did really well at DI we have so many trophys now, eh.

Who’s at My Table, Eh

We a started a class assignment about who’s at our table. Not an actual table, a figuritve table, with 5 of our role models. Once we had chosen our role models that would sit at our  table we had to write a paragraph about each person. The paragraph had to have at least 9 sentences. First an introduction sentence, then a topic sentence along with 3 supporting sentences. These are followed by 3 sentences to help explain each supporting sentence, and finally a conclusion sentence. After you do that you go ahead and do it 4 more times.

Martin Luther King Jr.

Here is a person that inspires me quite a bit. I assume that you know who Martin Luther King Jr. is. He was a civil rights activist around the 1950’s, when there was a lot of racism to African Americans. Just about any civil rights activist inspires me to stand up for anybody who needs it. Another reason he inspires me his ability to give public speeches. The main speech that inspires me is “I have a dream” which is his most famous speech. Sometimes I listen to it for no reason what so ever. Another reason that he inspires me is that he was able to get the Noble Peace Prize with all the odds against him. Those are three of the reasons why Martin Luther King Jr. inspires me.

Barack Obama

Barack Obama, president #44 of the United States of America. He inspires me quite a bit, with many different reasons. One of the first reasons why he inspires me that he first graduated from Columbia University in 1983 and then went on and enrolled at Harvard Law in 1988, while he was there he was the first African American president of the Harvard Law Review, which is kind of similar to what he ended up doing. The main reason why he inspires me is his public speaking ability like Martin Luther King Jr. His ability shows in just about every speech that he does, and after you hear him talk you kind of feel empowered. The third reason he inspires me is that he is a bit of a pioneer for African Americans. The reason for that is that he was the first black president of Harvard Law Review and then the U.S.A. and while he was president he did a very well. Those are three of the reasons why Barack Obama inspires me.

Brent Grimes

You might not of heard of him but he is definitely one of the most inspiring people for me. Brent Grimes is a 5 feet 10 inches tall Corner Back in the NFL. The reason why I stated his height was because it was a big factor for why he inspired me and how he overcame that challenge. For the longest time he was told he was too short to play in the NFL, but he overcame that and went to the Pro Bowl 4 times after being undrafted in 2006. The next reason he inspires me is his work ethic. His work ethic showed the most when he had a massive injury when he played for the Atlanta Falcons, and then came back to the NFL and played for the Miami Dolphins because the Falcons released him. The third reason why he inspires me is because his ability is to prove people wrong. Which he showed when he was supposed to be “too short” to play and when he came back from his injury and played just as good if not better. Those are three reasons why Brent Grimes inspires me. Here’s a link to an awesome video about him.

Jackie Robinson

Most People have heard of this Baseball player. Jackie Robinson was one of the first African American Baseball Players. He was well known across the USA with people who loved him and people who hated him, which is one of the reasons why he inspires me. That reason comes from him blocking out the noise from being so hated because of racism. Another reason is because he succeeded so much in the MLB. A lot of people on his team didn’t want to play with him but he still became one of the best players in the league, with being a 6 time all star. The final reason is that he did what he thought was right, and he was just an all around a good person. So much so that he got his number discontinued across the league and now there is a “Jackie Robinson Day”. Those are three of the reasons why Jackie Robinson inspires me.

Vincent Edward “Bo” Jackson

Just about every American Football and Baseball fan has heard of Bo Jackson. He was one of the greatest athletes of all time, and being famous for the advertisements of “BO KNOWS” with Nike. He is probably one of my biggest role models, with having reasons like, being super athletic. Something that shows that is him being able to run a 4.12 second 40 yard dash. He also came from a very poor family with his mom being a housekeeper. That made it so that he had to work to help support his family. He hade an insane work ethic which pushed him passed people his age so he started playing with grown men at the age of thirteen in the Industrial League in Bessemer Alabama. Those are three of the reasons why Bo Jackson has been a huge inspiration to me. Here’s another awesome video.

I also recommend watching the 30 for 30 on Bo Jackson, it was one of the most interesting hour and 30 minutes of my life.

These  were the 5 people, role models, that I chose to be at my table becuase they significantly influence through their strong leadership and exemplary standards of how they  live their lives and impact others around them. Their actions inspire me to be more like them every day. At the same time though I want to be my own person and make my own path for others to follow just like they have. I could of chosen many others for of my role models but I felt that these were some of the best exemplars of traits and behaviours translating to  excellent choices I could select for this assignment.

Only if I could actually sit down at a table with all of these people, eh.
