Loon Lake Advance

Hello readers and welcome back to a post which I have been working on alongside my previous one about DI which was probably released a few days to a few minutes before this one. This one though is going to be less about a specific project but the learning advance we returned from just last week. Today, I’m going to take you through some of the great things we did but also the learning that we were able to complete there in 3 days.

On our first day, we got to the site in the afternoon in which we were able to get some free time in which is always nice. We also got to experience the food which was not their best performance that night in my opinion but they sure redeemed themselves throughout the trip.

The 2nd day was full of activity and the day we got introduced to our “Goal setting journal”. We would be working on this throughout our time at loon lake and even trying to make it last beyond the learning advance. As the title of the project says, it was focused on us making a goal, and ensuring that we came through with it. I found this both annoying and useful as when I make goals, they kind of sit in the back of my mind which isn’t great but I don’t need to do any work. Although it sounds lazy, I think most people do this so I thought it was good that PLP pushed us to keep with our goals throughout the trip and even took some steps after to help us keep going with them. The goal that I chose for the trip was to “Be more respectful to peers and teachers”. I would accomplish this by keeping my voice to a good volume, and not interrupting while others were talking. I also got paired with an “accountability partner” which was Sophia. Her job was to spy on me and make sure I was making solid progress on my goal. Once I had this goal down, I could finally start the steps I would take to accomplish it.  And as for the activities for the day, as I said at the start of this paragraph, this day was quite good as we got to canoe, rock climb, do archery, and go on the high ropes course which was definitely some fun.

On the 3rd day, let’s just say there was a lot of work. There were definitely some perks though as it felt like a regular day in my eyes. A good amount of school, but also left room for chilling and playing games. The schedule was not loaded with activities which I definitely enjoy time to time. We got a lot of work in our goal journals this day, completing almost the entire thing. This day, we looked at classmates goals, and tried to find different ways we could accomplish ours.

And then on the last day, we were able to wrap up our goal journal and do some reflecting on our goal. I thought I did quite well with my goal. I often raise my voice as well as comment when others are talking so it was a great goal but not one I could finish in 3 days. On the plus side, I made good progress on the goal as I was able to limit both of these problems on the trip. I think that the journal definitely helped me stay on track as well as find ways to make the goal easier to achieve. I think that accountability partners were a great way of doing this and I’m sure that it would work for goals at home as well.

Overall, I’m happy with the progress I made on my goal and I hope to continue working on it everywhere as it will definitely help me with school, work and life overall.
