Press Release

The Canadian federal election just took place so for our main project we were tasked with creating our own political party, to see if we could do it any better. We were to use what we had learned about the Canadian government and its structure from our previous lessons. In our groups of like minded individuals being: Emily, Ciara, Kaia and myself, we came up with a party that we thought could succeed in the political landscape of Canada.

The party we created is called the Egalitarian Party of Canada. Our party is based on the principles of equity and equality to bring Canada and all Canadians together. As you can see in our statement of intent poster “Our mission is to build an economically strong, environmentally sound, and increasingly diverse Canada through our political plan”

Our party is unique because instead of pushing people apart based on wealth and taxing the wealthy out of all their money we intend to set up government programs where the more wealthy can donate directly to the less fortunate and programs that help them and thier communities.

Secondly, we plan to ensure diversity at every level of government by making sure that people of all different backgrounds, ethnicities, gender, sexuality, etc. are included in every government institution by supplying the necessary education, training and guaranteeing opportunities for everyone.

Finally, as I talked about in my last blog post, we will reform the current ineffective “first past the post” voting system that we currently use and instead implemented the more standardized and effective electoral system of Proportional Representation. So that who the Canadian people actually vote for is more accurately represented not only federally but locally as well. This will also give more voice to the smaller parties allowing more voices to be at the table.

All in all, the Egalitarian Party of Canada is a fairly liberal leaning party focused on bringing Canadians together through equality and diversity. Our priorities being: changing the electoral system to a Proportional Representation system, ensuring diversity in all governmental institutions by providing the necessary tools to those individuals, and allowing the more wealthy the chance to give of their own free will instead of taxing out of it.
