Why should you never trust an atom? Because they make up everything!

Wow humour, what an art. Anyways welcome to the possibly last blog post of the decade. And today we’re talking a bit about my final Scimatics project of the decade. Chemistry Stories this project was an animation about how atoms and ions bond. The driving question was “How do atoms and ions act like characters?” We answered this question through our animated video about bonding. We showed how they bond by taking the atoms and ions and showing them as characters with emotions and feelings.

The big idea of this project was “The electron arrangement of atoms impacts their chemical nature.” We showed that we knew this by drawing clean and correct Bohr models. I think I did this very well as all of my Bohr models were correct, and I even redrew them serval times to make them more clean.

The next competency is Communicating “Formulate physical or mental theoretical models to describe a phenomenon.” We did this by making clear voice overs using scientific language to describe our animation. I think I also did this very well. My voice overs were very well timed to the animation and although the volume was a bit loud you could hear me very clearly. The one thing that needed work is the fact that I said “valence shield” instead of “valence shell”, this is incorrect and I would change that if I was to do this again.

The third competency is Processing and Analyzing, “Construct, analyze and interpret models and/or diagrams” this competency was all about showing in detail the bonding of atoms and the exchange of electrons. I think this was my best competency as I put a lot of care into animating the electron exchange and I made sure to include a covalent bond, ionic bond, and a multivalent metal.

The final competency was Questioning and Predicting, “Demonstrate a sustained intellectual curiosity about a scientific topic or problem of personal interest”. This competency was about using your class time wisely. I did pretty good at this because although I think I could have done it faster, I was actually the first pets to get fully approved and that probably means I used my time wisely.

Alright people thanks for tuning into this post I’ll see you later!
