Indie’s 3am thoughts

Welcome to Elmo’s world

MPOL 2022

How have I demonstrated growth as a learner so far this year? That is the question that I will be answering in this blog post and also in my presentation.

So far this year I have completed 3 projects, all of which have been very interesting and have provided tons of opportunities. In this post I’ll walk through some aspects of them to gain insight and reflect.

I’ll start of with maker, which is interesting because throughout the past 2 years, maker and humanities have kind of become one class to me. I don’t know what it is but the two subjects have fused, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t see what aspects of things are maker and what’s humanities. So technically this year I haven’t even had maker, but I still have some cool aspects to reflect on anyhow.

In our first project of this year, “So you think you can do better?” our final product was a video, which to me is already maker. The creation of those videos, even though they weren’t the best was actually a good way to gain storytelling abilities. I think that already this year my storytelling abilities have grown so much.

The other thing I should reflect on is humanities. All three projects this year have been humanities focused, and even though parts of the project were received very standard work from me, I think I improved greatly in some areas. Right off the bat I can say that my video making skills have improved especially since “run”. I think the second project we did called “the ology of apology”, really improved my storytelling skills also. The biggest presentation format we did this year was 100% the exhibition and that was what built some of my storytelling skills up from where they were, because I was telling the story of our project and process while also telling the actual story of a bad part of Canada’s history.

At the beginning of this year we also made learning plans for how we wanted to improve and what systems and habits we wanted to develop throughout this year. So far I think that my learning plan is doing fine, and that I have already achieved many of my goals. I do think that the habits and systems however, need some work.

Another thing I should touch on is my core competencies, which I have thought about all too much this year if I’m honest but I do think they are important. The three big core competencies I could think of were Communicating, Personal and Social, and Thinking.

Reflecting on thinking I think that my thinking process has subconsciously moved up a bit and I think over the past few months my thinking and idea generating has been getting better.

Reflection on personal and social I think that the “ology of apology” project that we did actually greatly improved my understanding of this competency and I am still furthering my understanding on it even now.

Reflecting on the last competency which is communicating I think that this is a competency that even from the beginning of grade 8, I have struggled with, but I think that even over a few months I have already gotten so much better at collaborating and communicating especially within a team or a group project.

Some evidence of these improvements should definitely be provided to I will link all of my project posts here and here. Also I will link my learning plan here . And my first post Here Lastly I will link to my Romeo and Juliet video here (rough draft).

I can alter my learning plan now by fine tuning my habits and systems and maybe my goals even a little bit because I think now that I have gotten a better read in what the rest of this year will be giving me, I want to set more realistic expectations of myself.
