Arg, Matey! Summative Post

– Argh, Matey! Summative Assessment –

For this assignment we learned all about the Europeans discovery of the new world. We talked about the Columbian exchange, Pirates, and more. And if you’d like to learn more than just keep reading!

We started off by making an AR short story. This was a short minute video that we had written a small script for, mine was about a bunny finding his family after that had been separated for almost his whole life. We did this by first learning of to use an app called AR Maker. The learning process was quick and simple which helped us quickly move onto creating drawings in Keynote. Here’s one of mine:

We then exported these drawings (with a transparent background) into AR Maker. We then filmed these, me had to actually move our bodies to see more and more of the scene while telling the story. If you click here you’ll find my video.

Next we did something called a Sketch and Tell. On one side we sketch something and on the other side we explain it and its relevance to the subject. We did ours about technology used in the age of exploration, this is what I sketched about for mine:

On the sketch side I drew things like the compass, triangular sails, a boat called the caravel, and more. You can read about these things of the tell side of this T-chart.

Once we a done a bit more learning we started to create another AR story, though there were some differences from the first one we did. For instance this one was going to be much longer and we were going to focus more and a theme to our story, this story was also a non-fictional story focusing in on facts about the Columbian exchange. Every story has to have a story line and that’s where the story spine came in (lol that kinda rhymed). The story spines we created was organized by columns mine ended up being 4 across and 5 down. The last two columns were the most important, the first out of two had a sort of outline of the a certain event in our words. In the next column over we drew a rough sketch of the event to get a better image lets take a look at mine:

As you can see we have a rough outline of the event and a visual explanation as well. We then took these drawings and touched them up so that we could use them to make our AR video. Here are some of my favourite final sketches:

  • If you look closely you can see small easter eggs in this one. Like the the pirate flag on the sail boat! And the smiley face on the building.

Once we had finalized all of our photos and had made a script we went out and filmed our final video, I’m pretty proud of mine I do think I could’ve done a bit better but overall I think it was a good video. Too watch mine click here.

Overall I really enjoyed this project though I did feel really stressed because it was really rushed towards the end and cause I needed to take a couple of sick days already made me more behind then I should have been. If I hade to pick my favourite part of this learning experience it would probably have to be the lectures our teacher Mr. Hughes gave us, I found them very interesting and helped me become more and more fascinated with the subject. If I had to pick something to improve with this leaning experience it would have to be the work loud, I’m usually really good with homework and get it done in time unless there’s something that made me have a delay on the homework. I think its because the break was coming up that it was so rushed but I feel like it was just a bit to much work with such little time.

Merci,

Ines
