This week for the student blogging challenge we are learning all about science. Now there were multiple different types of science but I wanted to focus on meteorology. Meteorology is the science about weather and the atmosphere. I always thought weather forecasting was so cool, because they were practically predicting the future very accurately. Now I know weather networks aren’t always right but considering they’re just looking around and the get this close is amazing.

So now that you know what meteorology is, I want to explain how it works. By knowing the temperature, air pressure, wind speed, and wind direction, meteorologists can compare it to when other weather scenarios happen and see what is coming. It sounds confusing but think of it like this. Imagine it’s snowing out, the temperature is -1 degrees Celsius, there is low air pressure, the wind speed is high, and the ind is blowing north. Similar conditions happen again 2 weeks later so now you know that results like that mean it’s most likely going to snow. Below is a video that explains really well how weather forms. This video is something he made for his niece’s class so don’t get confused by a few of the strange sentences. Anyways, enjoy!

This video was the first thing I watched and it gave me a really good understanding off how the weather systems actually form. So when I went to do my research I wanted to learn more about what he said to try and grow my knowledge. However all of the information I found was quite hard to understand. Where as, watching this video was super easy to get and really interesting.

Now that I have hopefully taught you some things about meteorology, I am going to quiz you. Just kidding I’m just gonna ask 1 two truths and a lie about the topic. OK,

  1. High air pressure means more precipitation
  2. Cold fronts are at the front of the weather system
  3. Convergence means, the meeting of air

That is all I have for this week. Hope you learned something, because I know I definitely did. See you next week!
