Individual advertising project

My Individual advertising project drafts

Launch

When I first learned that we were going to work with a real business to make an ad, it was pretty exciting but it also made me extremely anxious. I thought in PLP we might do stuff like that by grade 12 but definitely not in the first term of grace 8!

My group wanted to do an ad for Zücker, the candy shop located near our school  I had never been there but I was happy to go along with the choice

Building knowledge

Normally we would have started by setting up an in person meeting with the business owners – but COVID. So we called them by phone and arranged a time for a phone interview. One member of our group was designated to ask the questions. I recorded the interview and some others made notes on their iPads. I got some good ideas for my poster including a colour scheme.

Develop and critique

To make our posters we used a new app called Canva. It’s kind of like Pages but more specialized for designing things like posters. In some ways I prefer using Pages or Keynote – for example the ability to use Instant Alpha in app is super useful.  But Canva has lots of useful templates and tools like auto-generated colour palettes. We found some photos on Instagram and I incorporated them into my poster.

The feedback I got on my first draft was pretty good. I had to adjust the size of my diamond and make some small fixes to the text and white space. Another useful tip was to add some social media buttons.

Present

We presented our individual posters to the group and then combined our best ideas into two designs that we submitted to the business owners. We haven’t heard back from them, so that’s a story for another day (I guess?)
