DI 2022

We just finished the Destination Imagination (DI) 2022 BC tournament!

I was working on the scientific challenge, which wasn’t my first choice but I don’t regret it.

My team “Up Close and Personal” made up of Ava, Ariane, Theryn, and last but definitely not least: Teva. We were all roughly equal In participation and skill, and that isn’t to say we were all slackers; we did win!

So, as in all DI challenges we had “team choice elements” which were a way to get your team’ skills and talents counted as points in the official tournament. As two of our group members were great artists our first one was; (get this) Art and Animation! The obviously less important to this blog post and the one I actually worked on was “Music” …oh wait I’m a composer… nvm we will be talking about this! My assignment was to create the microworld theme, and through that 3-4 hour process my teammates were very helpful and supportive with each draft I sent them. And at the final performance I was very proud of my work, it helped set the mood for the sinister and spooky but also mysterious and beautiful world we tried to convey.

And although I didn’t get the technical challenge, me and Theryn were both experienced with that type of thing. Our solution was to use technical design to create scenery that could move on its own, which was a big hit! Though these props could be… finicky… and well let’s just say this was fun:

During the performance my character was the creatively named “Mr. Julian”, a laid back scimatics teacher based of a mix between Mr. Gross, and Doc from Back to the Future. Though I feel that some of my lines sounded like I forgot them when really he was just making them up on the spot. (he didn’t actually have a lesson plan, and he was making due dates randomly)

But overall it was very fun… and even more stressful…
