Hey everyone and welcome to my blog, these past few weeks we’ve been working on a project in Scimatics called metaphor machines. For this project we had to create a Rube Goldberg inspired machine that included an electric circuit which would all together represent and be one huge metaphor for the scientific method.
Before we got to creating our machines we had to build understanding of what we would actually be doing. So we began reading about electricity, and discovering how an electric circuit works. Learning about different types of circuits and rules to electricity helped a lot when we made our own circuit and also helped me expand my scientific language, because I was learning new words and scientific terms.
Next we began planning out how our metaphor machine would look. For this we turned to the scientific method, (what our machine is a metaphor of). We each made sketches of possible machines that would show the scientific method. After each individually making a drawing, my group mates (Asha and Owen) and I combined ours together to make this drawing.
Once we had our main idea down we started adding measurements and figuring out how much materials we would need.
Planning out our machine as a group gave me a chance to improve at group work but also gave me a chance to hear my group members ideas. Also through working on our blueprint I feel I’ve improved at reasoning and analyzing, because we had to measure And correctly design our blueprint so that it was realistic.
As soon as we had our plan down it was time to create!
We built and painted our metaphor machine, and also worked on our circuit that would light up on our machine. Heres how that turned out…

Im pretty happy with how it turned out, I do think we could’ve improved the bottom of the machine and showed even more of the metaphor. Creating our machine also helped me improve at planning and conducting, because I got the chance to use the materials we had to make a machine that would meet our requirements and main idea of the project.
