Week 5 of the Student Blogging Challenge is out and when I saw what it was about, I knew it would be my favourite. The theme for this week is music. This week’s challenge really made me work. I created a song on GarageBand and it was my first time really focusing on one song. Personally I think it is pretty good for a first time attempt.

The first task was to create a survey about music. I made mine on Crowd Signal, I found the website super easy to use and I would definitely recommend it. My survey included all sorts of questions such as, what is your favourite song to where do you listen to music. You can take my survey here.

For task two we had to create a quiz about music. I chose to make my quiz specifically about hip-hop/rap. If you think you know rap and want to test your knowledge try my quiz.

For the third task I decided to research my favourite music artist. I chose to talk about β€œDrake”. First of all β€œDrake’s” real name is Aubrey Drake Graham and was born on October 24th, 1986 in Toronto. His father is African American while his mother is Canadian and Jewish. Drake had a tough time in high school, his school Forest Hill Collegiate Institute was virtually all white and he was the only black child, he said that it helped him get stronger. Drake gained recognition on a teen drama television series called Degrassi, he later abandoned the series in 2007 to release his debut mixtape, β€œRoom For Improvement”. In 2010 Drake released his first studio album called β€œThank Me Later”, it was number one on the US Billboard 200 and was soon certified platinum. His next two albums β€œTake Care” and β€œNothing Was The Same” were very successful, they earned him his first Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. In 2012 Drake’s clothing company, OVO was founded. He raised awareness for the brand by mentioning it in songs as well as distributing merchandise. Drake holds several Billboard chart records and has the most charted songs among solo artists. He has also won four Grammy Awards, six American Music Awards, twenty seven Billboard Music Awards and to top it off, three Juno Awards. I think its safe to say that this man is very successful.

Finally, the fourth task has come. This task was the one I was waiting for, creating my own song. To create my song I used GarageBand because I’ve had little experience with it. My song has no vocals because I thought it would ruin it if I added some. I don’t really know what genre my beat is in because I kinda just played around with it and made something that I thought sounded good and didn’t really focus on a type of song. It took me about half an hour to produce the song and I think I have done a good job for little to no experience creating music. Check out my first ever beat!

That concludes week five, and yes I actually enjoyed it this time.
