Calgary Trip 2017 (Beaker Head)

On September 9th we debarked on a once in a life time journey to Calgary. To see the sites, to walk the path of ancient historians, and most importantly to learn. Some of the stops on this trip where incredibly interesting and like I said before once in a life time experiences. Even if we tried to relive the experiences once again it would not be possible because of weather, time of day or even the lucky of how nice the employees at the time.

There were many ups and downs on this trip. One of the most influential downs or cons were the long bus rides. Most day we would have at least an hour drive or more, which means an hour sitting on our bums playing games. This wasn’t always bad, some times it would leave us extra time to edit or to finish what ever we were doing before hand. I know it’s unreasonable to think that we would be able to get around via some other way of transportation, since there really isn’t another way. We couldn’t fly because we were only going short distances at a time we couldn’t take a train, though if we could take a train I think it would be a great way to learn about the CPR.

A definite upside to the trip was our stops. All of our stops were very eventful, and like I said at the very beginning once in a life time experiences. Sometimes I wonder if some of them made sense, but they were all a lot of fun. When we went when to the glassier we saw a different type of land form then the natural mountains terrain that us covers are used to. When we went to Drumheller we saw the geographic events that change a beautiful tropical rainforest change in to a sedimentary “Bad land”. At each of our stops we didn’t just learn about geographical land forms. Most. Of the stops had their own thyme, for example a high amount of the stops had to do with the CPR. Now if you aren’t a “total history nerd” like Miss Maxwell you will probably not know that Canadian history basically raps around the CPR. To put it shortly the CPR was the tourism magnet that turned Canada in to what it is today by not only creating a root between the east and the west of Canada but by bring in the big bucks for the Canadian government.

We didn’t only learn about geography and the CPR on our trip. Our main focus on the trip was an art exhibition called Beakerhead. The cool thing about beaker head was that the art exhibits were laid all across downtown town Calgary. So instead of there being a bunch of exhibits under one tent, they were scattered in different places so you had to find them. The first art experience that we went to in Beakerhead was a exhibit called the serpent mother. It was made by an all girls group that empowered girlies to learn to weld. I personally thought that out of all of the exhibits this one was the best not only because of the message, but also because of what it did. This exhibit shot fire, out of each one of its metal vertebrae, awesome right.

Serpent Mother Video

Our main assignment on this trip was to create three videos. The first video was about a fictional story that you had to create in a ghost town. The second video was a non-fiction video about a town on the trip. Finally the third video is about a fictional story made in the setting of a enchanted forest.

Video one: Two school kids wake a ghost cowboy who needs to find his lost treasure.

Video two: A video about a town called Drumheller and how it got to be the tourist destination that it is.

Video three: A queen is kidnapped by a Mage who wants her land. She escapes but with a price to pay.
