The Final Countdown

This latest destination imagination provincials tournament has been like no other. And a lot of lessons were learned all in that one day, and the week leading up to it. Let’s take this step by step so you can get the full picture of everything.

First off, spring break had just ended and we had one week to prepare for the provincial tournament. We found out that Jesse would not be able to attend due to activities of higher importance. So, we had to revise most of the script to fit with a cast of one less person. If I could walk away with one thing I learned from this, it would probably be planning ahead, now, obviously it wasn’t my fault that we had to revise the script 5 days before provincials but it is definitely a reminder for me.

Our week of preparation wasn’t even that time consuming, it was mostly working on and memorizing the script. All of our props and costumes were ready for the big day, which leads me to the next topic, the big day! Wow, our very last day of D.I. Ever! We had to make it a good one. This years tournament was located at Collingwood private secondary school in west Vancouver.

The school was beautiful! It seemed as if you were in a brand new mall or something. Anyways, our main performance was quite early in the morning which didn’t give us a lot of time to prepare. Our presentation went great besides a few rough spots with the script and memorization, everything else went very well. We were very confident that we would take home a trophy. After a few hours of chill time we had our instant challenge. Personally, I think that our instant challenge went fairly well, we worked well together as a team and we also we were also very efficient. Here’s where things started getting rough, after our instant challenge some people on our team and another grade 9 team from our school we’re talking about the instant challenge out loud, and one of the challenge masters overheard them, which is not allowed, and we ended up getting in big trouble. After we apologized, we were still given a consequence. We were disqualified from the entire tournament which definitely which was very upsetting despite the fact that we work so hard up to this moment. I think the main lesson to be learned from this is to think before you before you speak, but besides that I think that the provincial tournament went really well and we had a lot of fun.

I’m also disappointed that we won’t be doing DI next year because I would love a second chance. Anyways, I have walked away from this experience having learned more than any other year in Destination imagination. I am disappointed that we wont have a second chance but I am also looking forward to moving forward.
