TWIL 1

For our latest unit in humanities we have been working on making connections between the 1950’s and the Shakespeare play; Macbeth. Throughout this unit we will be doing weekly blog posts giving an overview of what we learned throughout the week, this will be my first one.

So far, we have been following along with Macbeth using the Shakespeare in bits app, I really like this app because of the ease of use, all of the info packed into it, and the animations to accompany the script.

We have also been practicing taking nots in class using a timeline of the second world war leading into the cold war, so far I have been using the standard note taking style, hopefully once I find my apple pencil, I can start mind mapping instead, mostly because of the fact that I retain information better in my brain when drawing then opposed to writing.

Anyways, doing this quick overview of the transition between world war II and and the cold war has actually been quite refreshing, I enjoy recent history and am quite intrigued by the cold for as I don’t know that much about it but would like to learn more.

So far in Macbeth, Ive noticed that there is a lot of conspiring against higher powers, I can easily connect this between the play and the 1950’s through the fact that the U.S.S.R kind of bends the united nations’ rules and makes some countries mad, Russia is obviously below the power that the United Nations have which can be connected to Macbeth and Lady Macbeth conspiring to kill Duncan.

I also made a creative artifact, For this artifact I chose to draw the word ‘Power’ and then superimpose it onto a photo of a crows of people running, I did this to represent the pursuit of power that we are learning about with both Macbeth, and The Soviet Union and The United States. I also wanted to represent the fact that everyone wants power to a certain extent, and that this was shown in the first act of Macbeth and the beginning of the cold war.

I am really looking forward to delving deeper into the play and 1950’s political history, and I am also really excited to exemplify my filmmaking skills in our new project! (Which I will talk about in a later post). Thanks for reading an I will see you next week!
