Hello and welcome to my mPol Post. In this post I will be answering the two mPol questions. 

• How have I demonstrated growth as a learner so far this year?
• How can I sharpen my Learning Plan to ensure I will reach my learning targets by the end of this school year? 

Humanities:

Growth:

In this project I showed how I can schedule my time in an efficient way to get my work done. I showed this when completing keystone two, three as well as the final draft.   When I was not behind on assignments, it gave me lots of time to work on the final product to make it the best it can be. I was able to use my creative writing skills to write a story for the final product of this project. I used my understanding of the BC Gold Rush to create a plot on the category Californian’s.

In this project we got the chance to present the final product which was a memorial in the Winter Exhibition. I used my teamwork skills and included my creativity to help come up with and build a memorial representing what the Chinese went through. We made unstable blocks that represented the ongoing battle the Chinese had to face and how Canada was on top and control.

Learning Plan: 

In my learning plan this year I had to make a goal that I wanted to achieve. Because my goal was to improve my presenting and public speaking skills I did get to work on that a little bit, but there is definitely still lots of room to improve.

My Fails – How can I improve?

Romeo Romeo, why are we still talking about Romeo and Juliet: 

Growth:

In this humanities project I was able to use my teamwork skills as well as my great work ethic. I really enjoyed working on this project and although it was short I felt that I did a good job at getting my work done and completed on time if not ahead of time. 

In this project we read between 1 and 3 scenes for every act. I found this kept my attention span as I was interested in reading Romeo and Juliet, and there was not a ton that we had to read outside of class.

PGP – Loon Lake:

This year since we are in grade 10 we have started a new subject called your Personal Growth Plan (PGP). For this subject we got to go to Loon Lake as a field study once again. While I was on this field study I learned about personal growth as well as recognizing and building leadership skills. 

One of the many activity’s we completed was based around personal performance and emotional intelligence. In this activity we were given 5 cards then we had. Few minutes to trade cards with others to find the 5 that we felt best represented us. From those cards I was able to pick out what I wanted to work on. Those two skills were self confidence and adaptability.

Everyone made a personal credo and I am super happy with how mine turned out. I feel like it really represents who I am. When we were creating our credos I was stuck at first unsure what to write but then after hearing others examples I got into a good workflow. 

Learning Plan:

Although my goal for PGP was not based around public speaking and confidence, I feel Loon Lake really represents how I’ve grown so far this year in that area. In this field study unlike the one last year we completed multiple different  activity’s which all pushed me out of my comfort zone improving my confidence overall.  

Overall Habits and Systems:

I can use the habits and systems I have wrote down in my learning plan to help me continue to work towards my goals.

Competencies:

I feel that the all the profiles in the competency sections communication, thinking, and personal and social are still accurate to where my learning is today. But throughout the rest of the school year I can revise and change them as I grow.

In the end I am happy with the work that I have completed so far in this semester. When completing projects I would like to work on having a good attitude and approach even if it is not something I am super interested in. I would like to continue to improve my presenting and public speaking skills in the upcoming projects and I think there will be multiple chances to continue to improve overall.
