Welcome, welcome, welcome. As you know, we are back into our routine of writing weekly reflection posts, but not necessarily about the same project. Thats right, you heard me correctly, new project time!!! If you missed how we ended our last project, go check out the learning portfolio for ‘The Greatest Canadian’ to see how we finished off that exciting project. As for our newest project, we are keeping the podcasts going strong, except the topic haas changed entirely.

For episode 2 of our podcasts, we are focusing around the concept of World War II. Now I don’t expect you to remember this but we did a project last year based on World War I. This project is sort of a follow up but also a whole new project in itself. Episode two of our podcasts will revolve around our topic and how it connects to World War II, so for example my podcast topic is music so episode two of Turn it Up Will be all about how music was very influential during the time of World War II, how it evolved and particularly the importance of it.

To start us off we decided to listen to some stories that would give us inspiration, ideas, and knowledge about WWII. We listened to soldier stories, read a children’s story, and watched an intro to WWII video. We can take valuable information from all these stories, as all of them tell an important story about what it was like to live during that time.

I’ve always loved the concept of podcasting, mainly because it’s probably the most effective way for me to gain knowledge. I decided that listening, especially to the soldier stories, was something that I really liked to listen to and learn about, so I decided to go home and listen to some interesting podcasts I could find about WWII.

Here are some of my favourites:

  1.  Witness History: World War 2 Collection

Coming from BBC World Service , each episode is about a first-hand World War 2 experience/event that impacted many. This podcast ran from 2010 all the way to 2019. They have 9 years of documentation about what it was like to live through World War 2, and their episode are very interesting! I recommend listening to “Saving Italy’s Art During WW2” or “The Fake IDs That Saved Jewish Lives”, I really enjoyed those episodes.

2.  Cool Canadian History

The host David Borys, takes us through moments in Canadian history that need to discussed and remembered! Season 2:Episode 1 “The Strangest Tale of the Second World War: The Battle for Castle Itter” , was a very interesting episode that tells us about the last days of WWII, and the struggle to defend Castle Itter against SS agents. I  suggest you take a listen, its only 17 minutes!

Let me know what you think about all the World War II stories, or if you have an interesting suggestion for me to check out (audio, visual or reading!). If you try out either of the 3 episodes, let me know in the comments what you think!

Let’s keep it movin….
