Yes I indeed have 5 names, no, I will not say my full name out loud for you

After learning how to analyze history, we now jump into our own! For our next assignment we were to pick four meaningful events of our past, and describe their significance. The first one would be a story about our birth along with 3 other events that had some impact in our life.We were to create a description of the event including some sort of visual. I decided to create a photo essay!

I chose these four events as they are historically significant to me. These events have shaped my life the way it is today, they represent my childhood, my growth over the years, or for some, they represent the qualities I was born with which make me who I am.

All these four events are based on not solely my memory but what my parents along other people have told me. What I’ve written has been influenced by several different sources, and was just an interpretation of the information provided by them. I don’t completely remember every single event, such as my birth, which make me have a biased interpretation of what actually happened. I have used the pictures to piece some information together, as they are evidence of the events.

I recorded my mom telling the story about my birth as she was there and would be a primary source. I used the opinion app to record her. I asked her to talk about the event, to see if what I had written was accurate since I had only heard it from either her or my dad.

Here is what she said:

For the most part my description  was accurate. I only missed a couple details of information, such as the fact that my parents had discussed naming me Monika previously and had agreed not to. The slight variation of information shows how sometimes by retelling stories in history the “facts” can vary a little bit, even though people don’t mean for them to.

To make this I used:

I really enjoyed creating this blogpost, in fact I think it was my favourite one this year. Using what we’ve learned and applying it to my personal life increased my understanding as I could apply the concepts used to analyze history to a much smaller and specific event.
