Energy!

Recently in science class I have been learning a lot about energy. Especially the transfer of energy and renewable energy. I learned about where energy comes from, what types of energy exist around us and where energy comes from. With this learning came a project that I worked on with Daniel. We built and designed our own water powered generator as an example of renewable energy. We tested at a nearby creek and powered a homemade circuit of LED lights with it.

In and after this project I thought a lot about how I learned and what curricular competencies I improved on. Firstly, I think I made a lot of progress in the Analyzing cause-and-effect relationships curricular competency. This is because throughout the project I learned a lot about what happens in and around the transfer of energy. I showed this in the design of my generator and my video.

Next, I think I Used knowledge of scientific concepts to draw conclusions that are consistent with evidence. This is because I was able to connect the powered LED lights with the transfer of kinetic energy to light and heat energy in my generator during testing at the creek.

I think I also transferred and applied learning to new situations because I was able to take my knowledge of energy out of the classroom and into the real world to test my generator and capture footage of it working.

Lastly, I Generated and introduced new or refined ideas when problem solving. I did this because at many times during the building of my project I refined and generated new Ideas to make my generator more lightweight and efficient. There is proof of this because my generator was one of the most successful in energy production.
