Metaphor Machines post

This is how I solved the driving question for the Metaphor Machines Scimatics project.

I will write the answer to this at the bottom of my post.  For this project we had to make a Rube Goldberg machine about the scientific method.

Here is the video of our Rube Goldberg machine:

This is my review and process of creating the Rube Goldberg machine.

I think that if I were to do it again then I would probably make the machine more complicated, and.

I think that the finished machine looks pretty cool, and I am proud of the final result.

The Curricular Competencies for this project are:

  1.  Questioning and Predicting: Demonstrate a sustained intellectual curiosity about a scientific topic or problem of personal interest

This means that I can use all class time is used efficiently for learning without distractions.

I think that I did okay for this competency as I really was interested in making the Rube Goldberg machine, and I put a lot of work and thought into it, but I got distracted a few times.

2)   Reasoning and Analyzing: Estimate reasonably

This means that my final blueprint is complete and accurate. Contains grid scale. All measurements are labeled with a high degree of accuracy. All lines are easily distinguished.

I think I did okay for this competency, because I completed this criteria, but it took a few revisions.

3)   Planning and conducting: Select and use appropriate equipment, including digital technologies, to systematically and accurately collect and record data

This means that I can make hand built series and parallel circuits are used to good effect with efficiency in your metaphor machine. Accurate circuit diagrams are included in the final blueprint. Diagrams use proper symbols. Diagrams are neat and easy to understand. Measurements of current, voltage and resistance are included.

I think I did well for the hand built circuits, but I did not have that accurate diagrams in my blueprint, and the symbols were not the proper symbols.

The steps that I took to make the Rube Goldberg machine were:

Milestone 1:  For this milestone we made our project start mind map

Here is my project end mind map

Milestone 2:  For this milestone we preformed three different experiments involving electricity

Milestone 3:  For this milestone we did a khan academy quiz on scale diagrams

Milestone 4:  For this milestone we made a two blueprints for our Rube Goldberg machine, one by ourselves and one with our group.

Milestone 5:  For this milestone we finished our machine and added the voiceover.

Milestone 6:  For this milestone we made the blog post which I am doing right now.

I learned a lot about the scientific method in this project

Thank you for taking the time to read my blog, and have a great day.
