Overwatch for Christmas!

Christmas has come and gone and I got some really good things from it. One of those being Overwatch. I wanted this game for about a month, and boy has it been fun.

For those of you who are wondering “What is Overwatch?”, Overwatch is a Class-Based Team-Oriented First-Person-Shooter. It doesn’t have a story mode and the objective changes based on the map. Currently there are 4 different modes, Escort, Control, Assault and Assault/Escort.

img_1006

At the beginning of the match you pick a hero to play as, and each hero is in one of four categories. These four being Offense, Defense, Tank, and Support. Offense heroes do lots of damage, defense heroes are excellent at stopping the enemies from capturing objectives, tanks soak up damage for the team, and supports will, surprise surprise, support your team by healing them or giving them more max health.

img_1002

After playing for some time I have determined that my favorite hero, or my “main” is Junkrat, a defense hero that blows stuff up! His basic attack launches a grenade that will explode after a certain amount of time or after hitting an enemy. I also play Roadhog, one of the most tank-like heroes with 600 health, self heal an hook that brings enimies closer to you, and a shotgun that deals tons of damage up close. Lastly, I also play a lot of Lucio, a support hero with really good A.O.E. healing and speed boost. To put that bluntly, he just needs to exist to be helpful.

So far there are 23 different heroes to chose from with another soon to be on their way, and I want to get better at all of them, but the ones I want to get better at the most is either McCree or Soldier:76. This is because these two are in the offense category, and I’m not very good at any hero in Offense. Another reason is because these two are some what easy compared to other offense heroes, like Genji or Pharah who both need a lot of skill.

Google Year-in Review!

The Google Year-in Review was made by google to show us what the most popular search trends on google of this last year were, and after watching it I would like to point out parts that I didn’t recognize.

The first ting I didn’t recognize was the scene with the man wearing the “free hugs” shirt. This man was standing in front of a line of police men, and appears to be part of the “Free Hugs” group of people. These people go around busy areas with signs or shirts with “Free Hugs”, and they will give free hugs to anyone who wants one, for any reason.

Another thing that I didn’t recognize was the rocket landing on a platform in the ocean. I found out that this is the “SpaceX” program, and after looking into it, it seem really cool. The people behind SpaceX want to make fully reusable space rockets, to save lots of money for space travel once the rockets are built.

One thing that I found surprising was that Pokémon Go was a part of this video. Even though this was released on July 6, 2016, I would have expected to see it on the YouTube rewind video instead. This is because, to me, it feels like something that would be searched on YouTube instead of google.

img_0994

If I could make a year in review about my life in 2016, it would include my graduation, the official adoption of my cousin Howie, my aunt finishing her chemo therapy, and other events like Christmas and my birthday.

Term one is over!

Term one is over! This means that the mini-exhibition is over, we’ve gone to Oregon, and we got our report cards. Im super exitied for what term two will have to for me, but until then I plan to reflect on the major events as a whole.

img_0324The bridge going into Astoria

The first major thing that happened this term was our trip to Oregon. Sadly, this came much later than we had hoped. Because Mr. Hughes injured his leg and it wasn’t fully healed by the time the trip was planed to happen, we couldn’t go for about another month. When his leg was healed enough to go, we went down to Astoria on the first day, stayed there for two nights, then went to Newport. During our stay at Newport, we slept in yurts for three nights. I found these to be very cramped, simple because they weren’t big, and there were a lot of bags and luggage in the yurts with us. During the final night we stayed in little cabins at a place I can’t remember the name of. I really enjoyed staying in these cabins because I could charge my iPad and phone for the long drive back home. They were also less cramped.

The second major event that took place during the first term was the PLP mini exhibition. In preparation for the exhibition we were all assigned to a group based on a question we chose. I was assigned to the “invasive species” group with Luca J, Austin, Kiefer, Alivia, and Robin. For the actual assignment, I chose to answer “How do invasive species get to Vancouver, and what can we do to stop them”. Because we all had to make something engaging to the audience, I chose to make brochures and bring a bowl of candy for the audience to take.
I learned quite a lot from this assignment, including the answers to my question. If I could do anything differently it would be to either make more engaging brochures, or to make something different all together. I felt that my brochures were a bit disengaging towards the audience.

img_0940img_0941The two completed sides.

I think my group worked really we together because we had two tables. One was an ocean modelled table and the other (the one I was at) was modelled as a land table. We also taped green streamers on to the Ceiling of the area around the ocean table, to make it feel as if you were under water and in a kelp forest. Even though this event was great there were still a few things that I didn’t like. The biggest problem for me was a lack of time. We had one week from getting an approved question to watching out parents walk through the door. From what I know, because the Oregon trip was postponed and we had to work on an Oregon book in book creator after getting back, we got much less time than we should have had.

Pokémon Sun and Moon team!

18 more days until Pokemon sun and moon are released! In the spirit of Pokemon, Im going to be making a list of the Pokemon that will be on my team in the upcoming games. Just as a warning, this is a list of Pokemon that have been revealed as of now. If other/ better Pokemon are revealed or in the game, I might use them instead. Also this will be my end game team. I will have other Pokemon before I get to catching some of these Pokemon.

1.Incineroar: Fire/dark type
Because i always keep my starter on my team, inciniroar will probably be my ace, or best Pokemon. Also the fire/dark type is very strong together.

2. Wishi-washi: water type.
According to the pokedex, wishi-washi is so strong and intimidating that wild gyrados run away from it.

3. Lurantis (or) tzareena: both grass
Im not entirely sure which grass type I will have on my team. They’re both strong looking and they’re signature moves are both really cool. I guess it depends on which i get first.

4. Nine-tails (alolan form): ice/fairy
Nine-tails is the most elegant Pokemon ever in my opinion. Ice/fairy typing makes it very glass-cannon-y. It can absolutely destroy grass, ground, and dragon types, but gets destroyed by fire and steel types.

5. Kommo-o: dragon/fighting type
This thing is awesome! Dragon/fighting type is crazily offensive, and this pokemon is totally the pseudo legendary of this generation. I think this pokemon is going to be one of my strongest team members.

6. Oricorio( pa’u style): psychic/flying
Up until now, every pokemon on the list has not countered two types. Fighting and poison. Oricorio covers both. I will, however, replace oricorio with my next pokemon on the list.

7. lunala: psychic/ghost
Lunala covers poison just as well as oricorio does, but is completly immune to fighting type attacks. The only problem is that it can get hit by ground type attacks. Also it is very late game, so I will have oricorio until I get lunala.

Yes, I am aware that you can only have 6 Pokémon on a team. So might be switching some of these Pokémon out for others.

Swift Playgrounds 50%

For the past while we have be coding using Swift Playgrounds. Swift Playgrounds is a coding app that uses swift coding language. In Swift you write a code that tells your character “byte” where to go and what to do. Each level is slightly more challenging than the last, requiring you to focus and think about what to write and what consequence each command would have on byte.

img_0197

This is the “across the board” level.

As we completed chapters in swift playgrounds, we wrote reflections on them about how we felt about the chapter. Here are some quotes from mine.
-“Each level was about bugs and debugging, and the final level was my favourite of all. It was my favourite because of how simple, yet complicated it was. We had to get Byte to collect a gem and toggle a switch in the shortest line of code possible using portals.”
-“I found the shortest route on my first try, but it took me a few minuets to think about what would happen when a certain command was told.”

img_0196

After that came the challenging part. We had to use “loop code” to make byte do the same commands a certain amount of times. The loop itself wasn’t difficult but getting the right code was. I found the trial and error of loop codes to be very confusing at first, and still do as im wrighting this very sentence.

Halfway though ad stuff

These are all  draft advertisements I’ve made for our advertisement project. Three are for MEC, one is for my peers to come to my treehouse, and one is advocating earthquake safety. My favourite is the treehouse one, but I like all of them.

Every couple of days we get together and critique each others ads and then change the ad based on how we were critiqued. I really like this way of marking each other because, honestly,  its usually a lot easier to understand what people mean when they give us feedback.

After we  get our feedback, we take a picture of it.

Making the ads is sometimes hard and sometimes easy. The hardest part is getting or editing some photos, such as the photos in the MEC ads, or geting the white background on the photos in my treehouse ad. For combining the photos into one ad, I used a photo creation app called “Canva“. The only bad part about Canva is that it will sometimes crash and make me login again.

Popplio!

Popplio

Finally, we have the water type starter, Popplio. Popplio is the internet’s least favourite starter, but is my second favourite of the three. Popplio is my second favourite because his design is similar to what it is based on, yet different enough to still look like a Pokemon. I think that Popplio is cute and might have a great evolution. I feel that he will be more elegant and beautiful instead of beefy and tough.

UPDATE: The starter evolutions that have been revealed recently have proven my predictions to be correct! Yay me! I am really sorry that Popplio evolves into Brionne. In my opinion, Brionne is not the greatest designed Pokémon ever.

Rowlet!

Rowlet

This is Rowlet, the grass/flying type starter for Pokemon sun and moon. Rowlet is the favourite starter of the majority of people, but he’s my least favourite starter of the sun and moon starters. I still like him, but someone have to be last. Sorry Rowlet.

UPDATE: Rowlet’s evolution is just slightly above Litten’s in terms of my favorite, but just slightly. Good job Rowlet. Way to make the middle evolution look cool and edgy all in one with Dartrix.

Litten!

img_0153

This is Litten, the fire type starter Pokemon for Pokemon Sun and Moon that come out in November. Im really exited for these games for many reasons, but mostly because litten will be my starter and litten is really adorable. Similar to another drawing later on, Litten design is similar to what he is based on, but different enough to look like a Pokemon.

UPDATE: Litten’s next evolution is SO COOL looking! However, because Nintendo and Game Freak changed Torracat’s coulor from a midnight black to a grayish black when it evolves, Torracat is my second favorite, just slightly behind Dartrix, Rowlets evolution. But I’m still picking litten as my starter.

Camera Angles

Click here to see the photos I took
So this is my very first PLP blog post on camera angles. Our assignment was to create a poster or image displaying different camera angles used by movie/film directors. At first, I had trouble getting the shots I needed, but after my targets stoped moving as much as they did, I got multiples of each shot. Each shot gives a different feeling to the audience. The establishing shot establishes the area the next scene takes place in. The low-angle shot makes what ever is in the shot feel more intimidating😈Rraaa.

For taking the photos I used my ipads camera(obviously) and an app called “Comic Life 3” (Comic Life 3 by plasq LLC
https://appsto.re/ca/iMvi1.i) to edit my photos onto the page you see above(or below). I then started with a 2×3 comic page. After I got my photos placed where I wanted them to be, I placed speech bubbles as titles for each of the photos. Then I messed around with background colors and speech bubble colors. And after all that I finally added my page title, and was done that part of the assignment. After, I spent some time editing both this blog post and the image you can veiw above the post by clicking the link.
