Creating Flexible Design Spaces

https://i.pinimg.com/236x/b2/26/cc/b226cc51bb1d1ed9665161d07e215b6d--learning-environments-learning-spaces.jpg This Flex session I am working with 5 groups of students (each group is 3-8 students) as they redesign 5 locations throughout the school. We began our first week with youtube videos 1) Transforming Learning Spaces www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFTFTiZLRRY  and 5 Tips for Active Learning Space Design www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXDTxEeLLD8

Students then chose their locations and groups. The Design Steps we are following come from HGTV:

  1. Decide your space’s purpose
  2. Remember who uses the space
  3. Do your homework – cut out pictures, look through magazines, online,…
  4. Keep size in mind
  5. Create a consistent look
  6. Start with a signature piece
  7. Formulate a plan
  8. Shop around to create a look
  9. Limit trendy pieces to accessories
  10. Light up the space
  11. Make if personal

Today, students explored design boards and what is required to create one. They began working on step #3 – 6. Can’t wait to see the design boards and budgets over the next 2 weeks. Let the design fun begin!

I believe that Aboriginal education is important for all; in order to develop an educated person we need to have awareness of our  shared history and gain an understanding of how to support and increase success for students of Aboriginal Ancestry.

NVSD #44 follows 3 pathways: Student, Educator, & Community as outlined in the Enhancement Agreement Process, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and the introduction of a more Modern Curriculum.
