How can we predict our finances for the future?

Introduction

What to record? Thats the investigation I have been myself these past few days as I stare into the abyss of a pages document. Anyways, in this project we leaned time equals money. I knew this before the project but, didn’t know the math complicated part of the work part. Overall, I learned in this project that staring an entrepreneurship is hard and difficult process.

Milestone One: Project Choice

For milestone one we had to choose what we wanted our entrepreneurship to be about and what I wanted hypothetically sell. I chose juices for this product. This is because I thought selling juice would be simple and easy to calculate. If I were going to do one thing in this project again, I would make sure to better plan out in the beginning how I would create a fruit stand. Overall, this part of the project was the foundation for the rest of the project.

Milestone Two: Spreadsheets

In milestone two we had to create a spreadsheet, in this spreadsheet we describe what we need to create our product and how much it would cost. I searched up online how much juice would be in per cup and searched up how much it would cost for a portion of that fruit. If I were going to do milestone two again I would scrap the juices, *cough* *cough*, grape juice, that were expensive, took a long time, and overall unprofitable product. Additionally, I think I did amazing job at creating an organize graph. Overall, this was a key step in this project.

Milestone Three: Equation

This part of the project is the one that I messed up the most on. For this part of the project we had to create equation below with our product

The one thing I messed up on in the first draft of the equation due to not making my time based on the hours in the day and my math for grape juice being incorrect. This made it so I had to redo it due to not being able to calculate how much I would make in a year. However, I think I did well on make a first attempt at my learning. Even though I was totally wrong, the fact that I tried my hardest was the important part of this project. Overall, failing this part of the project, helped me know what to do right.

Milestone Four: Graph

Milestone four was all about graphing our data. We used the math app Desmos in order to create our graphs. We had to use the results from the equation above and input into Desmos in order to create a graph. If I were going to do this project again I would make sure to label and organize my graphs better. However, I think I did a good job at meeting expectation for this project. Overall, this part of the project was great evidence for milestone five.

Milestone Five: Video

Milestone five was a difficult process that was filled with many twists and turns. For milestone five we had to create a video about how we would create our project, how much we would make with our project and comparing our business to other careers. I had to make many revisions in this project and I’m still not happy with the end result. This was not explaining exactly how my career is close to other careers and not labeling all my graphs. However, I think I did the best I could due to how exhausted I was feeling. Overall, this project challenged me and I feel I could done better on the final product.

Core Competences

Understanding and solving: Apply multiple strategies to solve problems in both abstract and contextualized situations

For this competence I think I did a decent job at fulfilling this competence. This can be seen in my math worksheets. In these I solved all the equations and show my work in step-by-step way that is easy to follow. Additionally, I was able to get everything correct in Khan Academy tests which shows I can most defiantly solve math problems in both abstract and contextualized situations. Overall, I think I did a okay job at solving all problems however, I think I could defiantly improve in grade 10.

Communication and representing: Represent mathematical ideas in concrete, pictorial and symbolic from

I feel I could of defiantly done better on this part of the project. An example of this is in the workbook. I would often create these lazily created graphs that were a bad representation of how the equation worked. However, at the end of the project with the two final graphs, I feel they were generally okay and in someway met my competences. Overall, there is a lot I can improve upon and I will try to improve upon in next year math.

Connection and reflecting: Connect mathematical concepts to each other and to other areas and personal interest

I believe for this competence I believe I did not great job and I could of improved more. This due to my final presentation being extremely vague on how actually my career would work in the real world. Moreover, I made no effort to actually search up how living in North Vancouver might effect how my pricing would work. Overall, I believe I will try to follow the instruction more closely in future projects.

Conclusion

In general, I feel understanding math is key to predicting our future finances. With math and the correct data, you would easily be able predict your financial future. This doesn’t mean it will 100% show how financially secure you’ll however, it will most likely tell you a close version of what your money would be like in the future. Overall, this project has helped me learn how to organize the money I earn in the future.
