Why is it so important to preserve the Juno Beach Centre?

Introduction:

What defines something as historical significant and how do events in the past effect us today? That was one of the many question we had to answer in this project. This project was all about WW2 and how WW2 still affects us to this day. The end result of this was a multi-paragraph composition about the important of preserving Juno Beach. If you didn’t know Juno Beach is one of the five beaches chosen for D-Day, the seaborne invasion of France from the Allies. Juno Beach was assigned for Canadians to invade and defeat the Germans in the area. Recently, people have suggested the building of Condos on this beach. This idea was rejected by basically everyone due to the blood spilled on that beach. Before, this project, I had never heard of Juno Beach before this project however, I was determine to learn as much as could since I needed thee good grades. This project pushed me in both my ability to write and my ability to analyze.

Knowledge of WW2:

Before I could write about WW2 I needed what happened in the WW2. I really enjoyed this part of the project since I gave me the whole picture of WW2 rather than just bit and pieces which I only gotten in my previous education. We learned about the condition for the beginning of war, the war itself and how the war ended. Even though this went by quite fast, I think that I was able to understand all the information given and applied some of that knowledge to my final essay. Overall, learning about WW2 and knowing all the details helped us create a picture of what living through the 1940s could of been like.

Historical Significance:

For this part of the project we were suppose to write three points on why WW2 was historical significant. We did this by using the information we learned from learning about WW2 to now apply in our writing. For my own writing  I tried to use the principal of point, why, why is matters for each point. I think this helped my writing to be at least good in the end, especially since I rushed writing it at Sunday at 8pm. If I were going to do this again I would have someone read over it thus, I would get the best result. Overall, this was a good writing practiced and helped me to argue historical significance.

Rhetorical Analysis:

The rhetorical analysis helped to analyze writing and explaining the context for a piece of literature. We had to analyze “thanks for not killing my son” and make layout for what our Juno Beach essay should be about. I founds “thanks for not killing my son” to be a very emotional and loaded essay to read. It defiantly was the right choice though since I found it to be very interesting to analyze and I think I did a wonderful job in the end. However, again I wished I asked for feedback for this part of the project in order to get an even better grade. Overall, I believe this helped me to think more critical about how writing works in the future.

Writing Process & Final Multi-Paragraph Composition:

Creating the final essay was a long and difficult process. This is due to how I went through so many draft and received so much feedback on what I could improve. I think that in the future I really need to improve my writing skills since I feel I made so so many basic writing mistakes. However, I think that I used the feedback I received to make my writing better for each draft I created. I don’t think I am completely happy with my final essay however, I think I put a lot of effort and hard work into creating it. Overall, exploring historical significant in my writing has allowed me to think more critical about the world we live in today.

Core Competences

Communicating: I can express and reflect for communication by determine appropriate and effective forms for purpose, audience, and message

I believe that I have fully met this competence. This is seen through my drafts and my final multi-paragraph composition. I was able to reflect on wether my writing would be the best way to communicate my message for each drafts. Moreover, I also show this competence in my rhetorical analysis. This seen on how I planned what should be the purpose, audience, and overall basic structure of my essay. Overall, this project has helped me improve my communication skills.

Questioning: I can share ideas, ask questions, and research information form a variety of sources

I think that I have somewhat met this particular competence. This is through doing a little bit of extra research for my brainstorm. However, I feel that I could done so much more research on my topic if I just motivated myself to work more. Moreover, I shared ideas and asked question during my feedback for the final essay. I believe that I did this quite well due to how many drafts I ended up doing and the amount of revisions.

Analyzing: I can identify, analyze, and represent supportable conclusion having evaluated relevance authenticity, and bias from a variety of sources

I believe that I fully this competence in this project. This is shown in my rhetorical analysis where I was able to analyze the intent of the author and evaluated the wording used in the source. This allowed me to come up with my own conclusion with evidence on my thoughts on how each sentence contributes to the overall message.

Conclusion:

Learning about Juno Beach has helped me to see how much of our world is affected by the actions of World War 2. It affects the society we know as Canada today and our world could of looked very different if the Nazis won the war. Moreover, the sacrifices made at Juno Beach should be remembers and honour for as long as the War predominately affects the society we live in.
