1. Do I qualify for the NAV CANADA’s Summer Student Employment Program?

To qualify for a Summer Student job with NAV CANADA you must:

  • be 16 years of age or older;
  • be currently enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary education institution on a full-time basis, and returning to school in the Fall; and
  • be able to validate the above criteria by providing original documentation, as requested, during an interview.

Volunteer for Spring Break at Stanley Park

The Stanley Park Ecology Society (SPES) is offering an exciting opportunity for 8 to 10 secondary school students to gain volunteer experience and work to restore important habitats in Stanley Park.

Time Commitment: March 18th-21st (Monday to Thursday) for 5 hours (10am – 3pm) each day.

Duties Volunteers will work as a team over the duration of the week to:

 Remove targeted invasive species from selected areas
 Restore and enhance degraded habitats by planting native vegetation and placing coarse woody debris
 Help to maintain and develop the native plant nursery by weeding and planting cuttings
 Talk with the public about ecology and invasive species in Stanley Park as needed
 Support fellow team members by maintaining a positive attitude and showing dedication while accomplishing tasks

Training will be provided on:

 Identification of native and invasive plant species and proper planting techniques

 Safe and effective techniques for removing invasive species
 General outdoor safety practices

Requirements:

 18 years old or younger

 Effective communication skills
 Willingness to be active outdoors, in all weather conditions
 Reliable, punctual and able to commit to participating for the
duration of the week March 18th-21st, from 10am-3pm each day
 Interested in nature, wildlife, and environmental conservation
 Enthusiastic about contributing to habitat restoration
