The Art Institute of Vancouver’s annual Structured Work Experience and Training program is a unique opportunity that provides students with valuable work experience in a simulated and creative work environment.

What can you learn?

Students will use industry-related technology in a facility that bridges the gap between education and industry. Faculty members will guide you through the collaborative process, mirroring the work environment that an employee might find in the industry. Our faculty will guide you as you learn and explore the realities of working in your chosen field.

Anything You Can Do
A day of fun, exploration, and inspiration
This event aims to bring together female students grades 9-12 from various high schools paired with women who are employed in a diverse range of sectors represented at the BC Skills Competition.
During this exciting event, participants will explore Trades and Technologies Firsthand while networking with women who have found success in trades and technology careers.
Some of the careers highlighted will be Architectural CAD, Culinary Arts, Electrical, Plumbing, TV/Video Production, Landscape Gardening, and Robotics and many more!

Spring Break Gallery Interpreter Work Experience

The Vancouver Aquarium is currently recruiting 12 students for our Spring Break 2015 Work Experience Placement. As a work experience student, they will be working within a team of students and staff to create the ultimate visitor experience for all of our visitors this winter. Their days will be filled with fun and varied tasks and they will have the opportunity to engage, amaze and inspire thousands of guests of all ages and from all around the world!

Group Interview (by invitation only): Feb 22nd – Time TBC
Mandatory Training: (All students must attend both days)
Interp Specific Training date: Saturday Feb 28th – 9:30 am to 5pm
Volunteer Services Core Training: Sunday March 1st 11am to 5pm
Placement Dates (12 students – six per placement)
Group A — March 7/8/9/10 and 15/16/17/18 (2x four day stretches, all mandatory)
Group B — March 11/12/13/14 and 19/20/21/22 (2x four day stretches, all mandatory)
Shift times:10 am to 6 pm

Please note: All eight placement dates are mandatory. When applying, candidates must clearly indicate preference for group A (March 7-10, 15-18) or group B (March 11-14, 19-22) as desired. Candidates will not be considered unless they can commit to completing all 8 dates plus the two days of specific training.

There are two camps to choose from: Broadcasting for Radio & Television For students who want to experience working in a radio station or TV station as a broadcaster, students spend 5 days in a real studio environment and learn what it takes to be a real broadcaster in music, news and sports. Spring Camp Work Experience Placement

We are looking for 18 (14 full-time, 4 part-time) highly motivated, energetic students to fill the Spring Camp Work Experience Placement. This placement will provide an excellent opportunity for students to gain experience working with children in an educational setting, work on their communication and leadership skills, develop a sense of teamwork and explore career options.

Title: Spring Aqua Camp Educator
Department: Education
Term of Position: Mandatory Training: Sunday March 1st 10am to 4pm
Specific Training: Saturday, February 28th, 10:00-3:00pm
Self-Tour Time: Anytime during the week of March 2nd
Choose Full or Part Time
Full Commitment: Two full weeks during Spring Break, 8:30 – 3:30 daily
Part-Time Commitment: One or two weeks during Spring Break, 2:30 – 6:00
Placement Dates: 14 full-time and 4 part-time student leaders needed
Aqua Camp – March 9-13th and March 16-20th

Please note: Students must be able to attend the mandatory training session. Changing dates with different groups will not be allowed.
