Covenant House Vancouver needs volunteers as callers with their Thank-a-Thon program. Covenant House Vancouver helps youth aged 16-24 who have fled physical, emotional and/or sexual abuse, those wo have been forced from their homes or those who have aged out of foster care.

They are currently looking for volunteers to say thank you to their donor families. See Ms. Parmar for more info.

REQUIREMENTS for VOLUNTEERS at LYNN VALLEY CARE CENTRE

 

  • Volunteers must enjoy communicating with the elderly.
  • Volunteers must be able to communicate clearly in English.
  • Volunteers must enjoy, appreciate, and respect the elderly Residents.
  • Volunteers must be able to follow directions, work well with others, as well as be able to work independently.
  • Volunteers must be conscientious, following through with their commitment.
  • All Volunteers must sign a “Confidentiality Agreement”.

Bio Technology Career Awareness Program

An opportunity for a student to do scientific research in the area of Biotechnology and explore careers in this area.

Once again BCIT is offering their BioTechnology Career Awareness Program in December or April for students in grade 11 or grade 12.  If you are enthusiastic about scientific research, lab work and our interested about careers related to biotechnology. The program will provide bus transportation (when applicable) between the laboratory and the industry site.

Discovery Days in Health Sciences

Discovery Days in Health Sciences is a one-day event that give secondary school students and teachers the opportunity to explore a variety of career options in medicine and the health sciences.

Organized by The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame and hosted by the research institute at BC Children’s Hospital, the day is comprised of a dynamic keynote lecture, hands-on workshops and a career panel discussion. Students gain a clear picture of what it would be like to be a health professional by interacting with researchers, clinicians and educators in their real-life work setting.

The next Discovery Days in Health Sciences will be held at BC Children’s Hospital and BC Women’s Hospital & Health Care Centre on Wednesday, December 7, 2016, 8:00am to 3:15pm.

The Gairdner High School Symposium gives students the opportunity to hear from Gairdner award-winning scientists and attend a behind-the-scenes tour of BC Children’s Hospital research facilities
