Science World

We offer all Lower Mainland secondary students in Grades 11 and 12 the opportunity to gain valuable volunteer work experience at our science centre. Teachers are invited to sign up students who they feel would benefit from a placement at Science World.

We offer all Lower Mainland secondary students in Grades 11 and 12 the opportunity to gain valuable volunteer work experience at our science centre.

There are 2 two-week (80 hours) placements during the Winter Break (December 21st – January 5th). All placements begin on the Saturday and continue until the third following Sunday. Days off are staggered so that there are five or six students in the building on any given day, including weekends and holidays.

Hours are 8:30am–5:30pm Monday–Friday and 9:15am–6:15pm weekends and holidays.

Bear Cubs Program

 

Do you know how to ski or snowboard?  Want some great perks that are in your own back yard?  Mt. Seymour offers High School Students the opportunity to assist Instructors with the Bear Cubs Program.  This program teaches  children aged 4-7 years old how to ski or snowboard.   (must be 15 years old )

In return you will receive a full staff season pass and a shuttle bus pass, training and staff benefits.  You will also receive training and full subsidize of the Canadian Ski Instructor Alliances Level 1 Course.  And the best part….. 6 extra credits towards high school graduation.

  • Season pass – $499.00
  • Canadian Ski Instructor Alliances Level 1 – $409.00
  • Credits – 4 Work Experience 12A or 12B
  • Credits – 2 External Credential.  An External Credential is a credit that has been developed outside the Ministry of Education and takes a student outside of the regular classroom setting.

As part of our hourly Hospitality team, you will be providing premium level quick service carrying trays of ready-made food items throughout the concourse area and into the bowl offering up-beat, energetic sales to guests. You will consistently provide exceptional and knowledgeable service that will impress and thrill fans and provide an iconic experience at every touch point. This is an hourly, events-based position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be able to work weeknights, weekends, and holidays with a start time of approximately 5:15pm
  • Must be able to safely lift up to 35 lb
  • Must be able to stand during scheduled shift, withstand repetitive walking, reaching, and bending for long periods of time
  • Strong communication skills, including listening skills and ability to communicate with guests and respond to inquiries
  • Have an incredible ability to thrive in a fast-paced and high volume environment while maintaining a first-in-class hospitality and food and beverage experience

Capilano University’s Business Leadership Class Shoreline Cleanup

Capilano’s University Business Leadership Class will be hosting two shoreline cleanups at Ambleside Beach on Saturday, November 16th and Saturday, November 23rd from 10:30 am to 3pm, with the goal to make our city cleaner for local residents and animals to enjoy.

This shoreline cleanup is a great opportunity for high school students to help make a difference in their community while fulfill their work experience hours and connecting with driven university students.

GO ENG GIRL

SFU’s Faculty of Applied Science is hosting a female-focused outreach workshop, called GO ENG GIRL, which encourages girls from Grades 7 to 10 to explore the realm of engineering and hopefully make a difference in the gender imbalances within the STEM world.

This free event includes two fun-filled activities which will allow girls to work hands-on with engineering related projects, alongside SFU’s very own Women in Engineering student group.

GO ENG GIRL will be held in the new SE3P SFU building in Surrey on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Student Experience Tours:
Explore what our students do outside of the classroom – the Student Experience Tour is a mini campus tour highlighting some of the places our students frequent to study, eat, and have fun. You will see some libraries, a residence dining hall, state of the art fitness centres, and more! 
Women in Engineering Lunch:
Girls interested in engineering are invited to have lunch (11:00-12:00) with us! A panel of women engineers and engineering students will share their experience, followed by a chance to network with current engineering students.
 Engineer Your Future:
Indigenous students and their parents and caregivers are invited to join our current UBC Engineering Indigenous students who will share their own experiences while guiding students through everything that the UBC Engineering & Architecture Open House has to offer.
