BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute Virtual Discovery Days

Tuesday, November 17, 2020

Vancouver BC

Online

https://www.cdnmedhall.org/discovery-days

While so much of our world has changed this year due to COVID-19, our commitment to outreach and program delivery remains the same. Although we can’t be onsite for an in-person event this Fall, we invite high school students and teachers to meet us online to explore careers in medicine and the health sciences.

Our modified virtual half day program comprises a keynote lecture, an interactive workshop and a career panel discussion. As always, participants will have the opportunity to select their own workshop. Please note that, although our delivery model has been adapted temporarily, the program is still considered an individual learning opportunity and workshop spaces continue to be limited. As we have in the past, we ask you to identify select Grade 10 – 12 students interested in science to attend the event.

Our virtual event will also include two 15-minute breaks, one of which offers participants an optional “Peer Networking Opportunity”. Virtual display ‘booths’ may also be available.

Participants will require access to a computer, headphones, video capabilities (optional), internet connection and a quiet space. This may mean they attend virtually from home that morning or are in front of a computer in a dedicated space at school

Camp Ignite Mentorship Program

Camp Ignite is excited to announce we will be going ahead with a one day Mentorship program Aug 09, 2020. Given the limitations of the current COVID-19 pandemic the previous format of our program was unable to go ahead. The Justice Institute has enabled us to utilize their facility for the day to put on a condensed version for the grade 12 students who would otherwise miss out on the opportunity of attending Ignite. We will be following all guidelines by the provincial health director, have identified appropriate activities and limited our youth participant number to accommodate social distance proximities.

The camp is open to Grade 11 & 12 girls. Priority this year will be given to those in Grade 12 but any other applicants in grade 11 who are not successful will be held for next year. Any youth interested in applying can send applications to campignitebc@gmail.com and we will contact them with further details on this and other future opportunities.

We thank you all in advance for your continued support of Camp Ignite. Any new contact details for the school (name, email, phone, and address) can be sent to: saulnierk@dnv.org
