Explore the challenges faced by individuals who are unable to wear traditional face masks at this unique event hosted by the UBC Engineers Without Borders Youth Venture.
Held over 2 days in January, participants will have the opportunity to do the following:
- Uncover the effectiveness and challenges of face masks in the fight against COVID-19
- Discover the engineering design process behind the development of face masks
- Design a face mask that is personalized for those who cannot properly wear traditional face masks
Day #1 – Panel Discussion | Saturday January 30 | 11:00 am – 4:15 pm
Engage with professionals from different backgrounds to learn more about the role of face masks.
Day #2 – Case Competition & Pitch | Sunday, January 31 | 11:00 am – 5:00 pm
Time to tackle the design process! Throughout the day, videos will be released describing the different stages of the engineering design cycle to help guide you through the design process. Working within a time limit, your team will be guided through a series of associated deliverables that will ultimately be compiled and used for a final design pitch. Your team pitch will then be evaluated by a panel of professional engineers as well as medical professionals. Prizes will be awarded to the winning teams!
