Earth day

Hello, my name is Simon. In this blog post I’ll be talking about earth day, why it came about and it’s history.

Starting off with a definition. Earth day is April 22, and is meant to celebrate environmental protection. With climate change on the rise, this event was created.

Earth is very important because we do not take care of our environment. Almost every year, their is a forest fire near Kelowna. Since 1999, 80 percent of the world’s ice caps have melted. Glaciers are tiny little things on mountains now, and every year, 2.57 million pounds of C02 are released into the atmosphere. Our world is dying and if we dot get it together, we’ll be dying as well.

Earth day first came about in 1970, after a climat and peace activist named John McConnell proposer an idea for an earth and peace recognition day. Since then, it has become such a popular event that their is a globally coordinated earth day network. A huge moment in the history of this event was the earth day 2016, specifically, the Paris Accords. This was a climat protection treaty.

We have made great leaps since 1970, but we still have a long way to go if we want a healthy planet.
