Literature is a Closet of Words [2]

Welcome to Literature is a Closet of Words Pard Deux (2)

Part One talked about the first half of our project, known as the unit “Story of My Life”. This second part is the unit “Punctuation Saves Lives”.

THE ASSIGNMENT

The first two months of this school year has been leading up to this one big assignment. The Synthesis Essay.

We started with a driving question, as per usual. This question was;

Throughout the past two months, during our trailers and reading our assigned books (see Part One), we have kept this question at the back of our minds.

PREPARATIONS

A lot of the prep we did before the essay was done during a week we had subs. This meant we had full classes to fill in sheet work. My hands hurt after doing all those exercises, but it payed off.

To prepare for our essay, we filled out a lot of practice sheets. They were really helpful in the end and though my hands weren’t happy at the time, I appreciated them when writing the essay.

These sheets taught us how to create a good thesis, a good hook, good opening sentences, and how to order our main ideas for our essay.

We then went to work on our thesis outline. This was done many times. It varied person to person, but after the planning and revising of my outline, I ended up with three versions. After the third version, it was time to try to memorize my outline and thesis as much as possible.

This was my Thesis Outline:

THE ESSAY

On October 26th at 11:30am, we sat down to write our thesis essays.

By 1:00pm, we had wrapped up writing that essay.

My essay was written to the following thesis:

In the link below is my essay.

When we wrote the essays, we followed a pretty simple design. A opening, three topics, and three points for each topic. If you look at my essay you will notice that my essay actually only had two completed topics with their three points and one topic that only has one point. It is then quickly followed by the conclusion.

Why is my essay like this? Well, simply because I ran out of time.

When going into this essay I was fully confident that I had everything I needed. I had my thesis memorized, I had my outline pretty much down and I knew what notes I wanted to write once I got the chance.

However sometimes things go haywire. I used all my time as much as I could and I didn’t waste a moment of it. I still ran out of time.

I now know that even though I was fully prepared in theory, I wasn’t as ready mentally and that I need a proper typing source when writing so I can do it in an easier and less time consuming way.

THE CONCLUSION

With every story comes an ending. I may not be a young adult author, but I am a reader. So I thank you for reading about my essay writing process and ideas. I hope it was at least a reasonable insight to my process of writing this essay.

Thanks for reading!

BONUS

This was the playlist I listened to while writing my essay. I used it because I knew it had good focus music that wouldn’t distract me from my writing but would calm my nerves while I wrote.
