For the past couple of weeks we have been working on our last science of the year. We have been focused on astronomy and more importantly my group focused on on the colonization of other planets
One for the first parts of this unit he had to come up with our own driving question and what we would actually be creating. Our question was, what are the requirements or a planet to be habitable? To answer this question we would be creating a keynote presentation that we present to the class.
Our keynote was mostly focused on three different planets, the moon, mars and one of Saturn’s moons called Titan. The reasons we picked these ones was because of their history to humans. The moon is the first planet that we visited apart from earth and is somewhere that in the future with the right technology could be colonized.
We picked mars because of the story The Martian and how it was portrayed in the book and the movie. We wanted to se if the things in the story were true and it was very interesting to research about.
The final planet we picked is Titan. We picked this because of how significant it is to us. It is the only known planet with solid bodies of water and this was something that stood out to us as it could possibly support life. All of these places were very interesting to research about it really made me realize how many possibilities there are in the universe for us.
After doing our research we put together a keynote presentation which collected all of the information we had and summarized it into small points that we would get across to the class.
One of the things that we also had to do was choose how we were going to be marked for our project. We had to choose 4 out of 6 different competencies that showed how we would be marked. This really helped us design our project and made sure that we got to do what we really wanted to do.
Its amazing how everything is related when it comes to space. From the colonization of planets to the creation of stars it’s all linked. Listening to all of the other presentations really made me realize how things are linked and how much we do not know about space and the rest of the universe. We have no idea in the future wether or not we will be able to colonize and what we will be able to find out but we are headed in a direction that is very exciting and I cannot wait to see what’s in store us.
